Mountain Parks Electric is a distribution cooperative seeking an individual for the Engineering Supervisor position in our Granby location. Mountain Parks Electric has approximately 70 employees, 1,800 miles of line, and serves 22,000 meters. MPE is headquartered in Granby, Colorado located at an elevation of 7,935 feet, 90 miles from Denver International Airport and 25 minutes from Rocky Mountain National Park. Under the supervision of the VP of Engineering the Engineering Supervisor will provide distribution system planning and protection/sectionalizing: system load forecasts, construction work plans, environmental reports, and long-range system plans, substation, transmission, and metering engineering support in accordance with established policies, plans and objectives of Mountain Parks Electric, ensuring that the member/owners have reliable service. This position Prepares contract documents for engineering and construction using RUS & MPEI forms. Evaluates proposals submitted by contractors, assures cost estimates for member projects are accurate, and designs meet NESC requirements and current MPEI design guides. The Engineering Supervisor also recommends resources to achieve departmental objectives through the annual budgeting processes. They recommend annual operating and capital budgets to the VP of Engineering for approval and follows approved budgets.
Requirements are a bachelors degree in an accredited Electrical Engineering program and registration as a Professional Engineer in the state of Colorado required. A masters degree in engineering or business is preferred. At least five years experience working for electric utilities with detailed knowledge in multiple areas including substation, transmission, generation, distribution, and right-of-way/permit acquisition required (knowledge and experience within an electric cooperative a plus); three (3) years managing/supervising experience in an electric utility required. Experience with NESC, RUS standards, AutoCAD, GIS, Milsoft, NISC, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Understands and follows established electric construction and maintenance specifications including those of the Rural Utilities Service, National Electric Safety Code, National Electric Code, and those adopted by Mountain Parks Electric, Inc. General knowledge of NERC reliability standards and experience supporting compliance programs for an electric utility. Demonstrated ability to deal directly with the public is required. Must have a valid drivers license and keep current and valid throughout employment. Basic first aid and CPR certification required within 6 months of hire. Must keep current and valid throughout employment. Must have the ability to work non-scheduled hours. Requires the ability to develop plans, procedures, and goals; present information to others; work cooperatively; and work under stress to complete projects accurately and timely within reasonable guidelines. Strong administrative skills and self-motivation with the ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks under minimal supervision in effective and efficient manner.
