Job Description
This Metallurgist role focuses on leading all aspects of quality reporting and customer interaction within a commercial heat-treating environment. You will oversee and continuously improve the quality system, support plant procedures and laboratory standards, and serve as a key technical resource on the shop floor. This position offers strong opportunities for advancement for a quality-focused professional who enjoys working closely with operations and customers.
Responsibilities
- Oversee, maintain, and continually improve the quality system that ensures the quality of products and services provided.
- Lead the development of quality system goals, upgrades, and improvements to support operational excellence.
- Maintain, update, and revise the Plant Procedure Manual, Operator Manuals, and Laboratory Manual to ensure they reflect current practices and standards.
- Act as the lead internal auditor by planning, conducting, and documenting internal audits of the quality system.
- Train and mentor additional internal auditors to strengthen the internal audit program.
- Facilitate and drive corrective actions, ensuring timely resolution of quality issues and effective root cause analysis.
- Serve as the company representative during quality audits and customer surveys, providing clear and professional communication.
- Interface directly with customers to address quality-related questions, concerns, and requirements.
- Support and promote a culture of continuous improvement across the heat-treating operations and related processes.
- Work on the shop floor in a heat-treating environment to monitor processes, support operators, and verify conformance to quality standards.
- Collaborate with materials engineering and metallurgy teams to support failure analysis and other technical investigations, particularly within automotive applications.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree with formal training and education in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field.
- Experience working in a commercial heat-treating environment.
- Experience in a management or supervisory role within a technical or quality-focused setting.
- Strong understanding of metallurgy, materials engineering, and materials science principles.
- Knowledge and understanding of automotive quality standards.
- Ability and willingness to work regularly on the shop floor in a heat-treating environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interface confidently and professionally with customers.
- Demonstrated focus on continuous improvement in quality systems and processes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Metallurgical analysis and failure analysis.
- Experience supporting automotive industry customers and requirements.
- Ability to develop and maintain technical documentation, including plant procedures, operator manuals, and laboratory manuals.
- Experience conducting internal quality audits and leading audit activities.
- Ability to train and coach others in quality system requirements and audit practices.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when managing quality records and reports.
Work Environment
This role is based in a heat-treat shop floor and laboratory environment. You will split your time between the production floor, where heat-treat operations are performed, and the lab, where testing and analysis occur. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, approximately 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some Saturdays as needed based on operational and customer demands. The position involves working in areas with industrial equipment, elevated temperatures, and typical manufacturing noise levels, requiring appropriate safety awareness and adherence to plant safety procedur

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $100000.00/yr.
