Director of Research and Development Jobs

The Director of Research and Development (R&D) in the manufacturing engineering industry is responsible for overseeing the creation of new products and innovations. They work on improving existing product designs and come up with strategies for the development of new ones. This role involves managing R&D teams, setting project goals, ensuring project timelines are met, collaborating with marketing teams to understand customer needs, and liaising with production departments to ensure the manufacturability of the new designs. They also play a crucial role in the budgeting and allocation of resources in the R&D department.

A successful Director of R&D should be inventive, analytical, and possess excellent leadership skills. They should have a deep understanding of manufacturing processes and materials. A degree in engineering, materials science, or a related field is typically required, along with several years of experience in an R&D environment. Certifications such as the Certified Research Developer (CRD) or Project Management Professional (PMP) can be beneficial. Prior to becoming a Director of R&D, an individual may have roles such as an R&D Engineer, Project Manager, or R&D Team Lead.
