Job Description
CAD Designer/Drafter
Location: Corunna
Pay: $17
Shift: 1st Shift, weekends or OT may be required
Are you knowledgeable in CAD design with a passion for metal fabrication? Do you enjoy creating precise 2D drawings and 3D models that directly support shop floor operations? Our client, a custom metal fabrication job shop, is seeking a CAD Designer/Drafter to join their growing team. If you have experience with AutoCAD and a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, this is an excellent opportunity!
Duties:
Develop and modify detailed 2D drawings and 3D CAD models of parts, assemblies, and shop layouts
Interpret customer prints, sketches, and specifications to create shop-ready drawings
Prepare and organize drawings for laser cutting, press brake programming, welding, machining, and assembly
Provide nesting layouts for sheet metal cutting equipment as required
Collaborate with shop floor personnel to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective
Maintain organized drawing files, part numbers, and revision history according to company standards
Assist with estimating and quoting by preparing preliminary designs and material takeoffs
Troubleshoot design and drawing issues, making timely updates and corrections
Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and customer specifications
Requirements:
1-3 years of CAD drafting/design experience in metal fabrication, machining, or manufacturing (job shop experience strongly preferred)
Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar)
Knowledge of sheet metal design, fabrication processes, and welding symbols
Strong blueprint interpretation skills
Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
Strong communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Work Environment:
Primarily office-based, with frequent interaction on the shop floor
Exposure to a manufacturing environment including noise, fabrication equipment, and safety protocols
