Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Tool & Design Engineer to join our metal roofing and gutter systems manufacturing team. This role combines advanced engineering design capabilities with hands-on machining expertise to support our progressive stamping operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, troubleshooting, and fabricating progressive dies while working with tight tolerances and precision equipment. This position offers leadership opportunities and the chance to work with cutting-edge manufacturing technology in a warehouse environment.
Key Responsibilities
Die Design & Engineering: Design and engineer progressive stamping dies for metal roofing and gutter manufacturing, creating new dies to replace worn-out units and support new product development
CAD Design & Documentation: Use CAD tools (Solidworks, Mastercam, Fusion 360) to create and refine designs, generate technical drawings, and maintain engineering documentation
Troubleshooting & Optimization: Troubleshoot and improve existing stamping dies and machinery based on performance issues, ensuring consistent performance during long production runs
Precision Machining: Operate CNC vertical machining centers, lathes, grinders, EDM, Bridgeport mills, surface grinders, and basic shop tools to machine progressive die components and replacement parts
Quality Assurance: Work closely with production and quality teams to ensure dies and machinery meet performance standards and hold tight tolerances
Parts Management: Order, fabricate, and maintain die components to minimize production downtime
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with production teams to ensure seamless manufacturing operations and address technical challenges
Leadership Support: Provide leadership support and step in for Tool and Die Manager during absences
Continuous Improvement: Actively participate in machining team efforts and department continuous improvement activities
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred, but equivalent engineering degrees will be considered
Minimum 3 years of experience in the metalworking industry; Tool and Die experience preferred
Design knowledge specific to the metal fabricating industry is highly valued
Minimum 2+ years machining experience required
Experience in metal roofing, metal fabrication, or similar manufacturing environment
Knowledge and Skills:
Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of progressive stamping dies, machine tools, and manufacturing processes
CAD Proficiency: Working knowledge of Solidworks, Mastercam, and Fusion 360
Machining Skills: Experience with CNC machining centers, wire EDM, milling machines, lathes, grinders, and precision measuring equipment
Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret technical blueprints and design models
Problem-Solving: Strong analytical problem-solving skills and technical troubleshooting abilities
Communication: Strong written and oral communication skills in English; Spanish a plus
Leadership: Leadership skills to support department management and team coordination
Quality Focus: Experience maintaining tight tolerances and quality standards
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: Up to $130,000 annual
Schedule: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM (avoid traffic both ways, afternoon free)
