**Principal Duties:**
The Lead Unit Design Engineer (henceforth The Lead) is responsible for
overall new unit design. This may include all engineering and mechanical
design, design risk identification and mitigation, material selection,
compliance to company and contract specific design Codes and standards,
and all other activities associated with new unit design from an
Engineering perspective. Additionally, the Lead is expected to create
and maintain engineering schedules, produce progress reports, assist
Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations, and supervise, develop and review
reporting employees.
The Lead will collaborate with the Technical and Functional Managers to
recommend appropriate mechanical design strategies for conceptual and
product development, task and priority determination, setting deadlines,
and assuring that business and contract goals are met.
The Lead will supervise reporting Engineers and other employees, some of
whom may be in comparable positions. These reports will be responsible
for performing activities in the design and analysis of pumps, motors,
vessels, heat exchangers, test loops, and other ancillary equipment. The
Lead will ensure these reports correctly translate contract design
specifications and standards into manufacturing drawings, contract
submittals, bills of material, procedures, tests, analytical reports,
and other products necessary for successful completion of the contract.
The Lead will identify and set development plans for reporting employees
to be successful in their positions. This may include mentoring,
training courses, contract related development areas, and more. The lead
will collaborate with the Technical and Functional managers to ensure
the training and specialization of employees aligns with the business
plans and needs, both short and long term.
The Lead will supervise, perform, and check most types of calculations
and analysis required for new unit design. The Lead will also supervise
or perform the writing of test plans, test loop design, unit testing,
and other contract specific design validation activities.
The Lead may need to work closely with other disciplines at Hayward
Tyler as required in the performance of design activities.
The Lead will be expected to perform self-checks of completed work,
develop self-confidence, and mentor, counsel and provide guidance to
their peers and reports.
The Lead will be expected to promote in-house mechanical design
excellence by developing design and analysis tools, processes,
techniques, and process improvement. Sharing knowledge, improving
existing tools, and identifying areas of self-development are also part
of the role.
The Lead may need to utilize in-house or contract subject matter experts
for electrical, hydraulic, or other areas related to new unit design.
Leads and participates in design reviews and other engineering design
process related activities.
Approves time off, schedules, overtime, and timecards for reports, as
required. Conduct and perform annual reviews. Ensures all Hayward Tyler
Quality Program training is up to date.
**Secondary Duties**
The Lead is expected to provide resources, supervision, or support for
areas outside of traditional Engineering, including:
- Application and Aftermarket Sales provide help with the preparation
of proposals, application of products, interpreting specifications,
providing supplementary information and modifications to assure
compliance to application requirements, among other tasks.

- Service provide technical assistance to existing clients in the
operation, installation, maintenance of Hayward Tyler provided
equipment, both in-house and in-customer facilities.

- Manu acturing Provide technical assistance to Manufacturing as
required to meet design requirements and resolve conflicts that
arise during manufacturing activities. For newly developed products
Manufacturing support may be a primary responsibility for the Lead.

- Quality Providing support, supervision, or creation of quality
related documentation. For newly developed products Quality support
may be a primary responsibility for the Lead.

- Subject Matter Expertise provide subject matter expertise to other
