GENERAL PURPOSE

  • Applies advanced engineering skills, knowledge and techniques to products, tools, materials and / or equipment to provide engineering support and documentation.
  • May adapt procedures, techniques, tools, materials and / or equipment to meet special needs.
  • Performs highly technical tasks, referring only the most complex problems to higher levels.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • May coach, mentor and assist in the training of new engineering tech staff.
  • May create, update and maintain required documentation (e.g. Bill of Material, Quality System or other information specific to work area).
  • Participates in and may lead continuous improvement processes, project teams and related initiatives.
  • Participates in continuous learning, e.g. educational and training opportunities.
  • Retains an open attitude toward new engineering ideas / methods / technologies.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
  • Performs all work in a team environment to ensure all work is completed 100% on time.
  • Performs engineering tasks including measuring, testing, documenting and creating / modifying drawings based on sound engineering principles.
  • Using skill and experience, may adapt procedures to meet special needs.
  • Reads, creates and modifies drawings to support the product / layout requested by the customer.
  • Works cross functionally with colleagues in Purchasing, Manufacturing, Applications, CAD, Order Administration, Facilities, Quality, etc.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

Education/Experience

  • Education/Experience - Not Parsed
  • Associates Degree Engineering Technology; individuals with mechanical aptitude and a minimum of 7 years proven work-related experience in the engineering specialist field may be considered.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred.
  • 5-7 years applicable engineering support experience

Licenses and Certifications / S kills and Abilities

  • Requires familiarity with basic measuring equipment (e.g. calipers, comparator).
  • Must be able to read, understand and apply blueprints, manufacturing routings, geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T) and work-specific codes (inventory, P/C unit of measure, etc).
  • Ability to effectively use office automation / communication software and tools used in the Herman Miller office environment and have a basic understanding of the current CAD system(s) used within functional area.
  • Must have knowledge of and ability to apply engineering procedures and practices.
  • Ability to achieve deadlines / completion dates.
  • Must be detail orientated to ensure accuracy.
  • Requires a team player with the ability to understand Herman Miller values, goals and objectives as well as key financial drivers, e.g., EBITDA.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to manage own workload.
  • Good listening, writing and verbal communications skills with the ability to explain technical matters to non-technical audiences.
  • Must be able to perform all essential job functions with or without accommodation.
