The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

As a Technical Director for the Property line of business, the successful candidate will join a team of technical directors to grow our book of business and mentor less experienced risk control consultants. The Property Technical Director will survey and service our most complex exposures and coach aligned learners in the assigned region. The Property Technical Director will closely align with the region's underwriting team to provided consultative service while supporting project completion in collaboration with the Property Product Director.

Survey work will include prospective, new business, renewal, and service type visits. The surveys will consist of preparation, account contact, hazard and control evaluation for the property line of business. All lines experience is a plus as is life science & tech skills. The onsite and virtual evaluations include report writing, recommendation follow up, and underwriting support. The survey and service work will support Liberty Mutual Risk Control initiatives and demonstrate the value of doing business with Liberty Mutual.

Additionally, the role is responsible for training/mentoring less experienced consultants to improve their property expertise. The Property Technical Director will develop (in conjunction with others) the strategy to identify, address, and improve the region's property skills. The successful candidate will understand the role of emotional intelligence in the coaching process and take ownership of aligned learners.

What You'll Do in the Property Technical Director role:

  • Survey and Service High TIV and Complex Accounts: Work on the most sophisticated property accounts to mitigate risk, improve performance, and guide underwriting to profitable business.
  • Educate and Empower: Provide training and resources to Risk Control Consultants and clients to promote best practices in safety and risk management.
  • Collaborate: Work closely with cross-functional teams, in Risk Control, Underwriting, and Claim, including direct customer service, to ensure comprehensive risk assessment and management strategies.
  • Analyze and Optimize: Utilize data analytics and industry insights to identify trends, develop actionable strategies, and drive continuous improvement in risk control practices.
  • Influence the Future: Shape the direction of our risk control initiatives, influencing policy and procedural changes that enhance our market position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with clear trajectory of increasing skills in the property field.
  • At least 10 years of directly related consulting experience in risk control or progressive safety/health field. Candidates are typically working towards (or obtained) an advanced degree and/or professional certification in one or more of the following areas: CFPS, CSP, ARM, CRM, CPCU, CIH, or CPE.
  • Advanced property knowledge with high retention and application of NFPA and FM materials.
  • Fully effective interpersonal, writing and other communication skills, required to develop and maintain relationships with customers, peers, and industry contacts.
  • Demonstrated ability to retrieve and enter information using various proprietary software applications and create/modify documents and complex spreadsheets using Microsoft Office suite and NFPA/FM codes.
  • Position requires regular travel to client sites which could be up to 35% per month.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with coursework in math, engineering or related areas (or equivalent) and at least 10 years of directly related consulting experience in loss prevention or progressive safety/heath field. Candidates are typically working towards (or obtained) an advanced degree and/or professional certification in one or more of the following areas: CSP, ARM, CRM, CPCU, CIH, or CPE. Advanced knowledge, skills and experience in a specialized field, service planning and delivery, risk assessment, risk analysis, solutions management and progress measurement.
  • Fully effective interpersonal, writing and other communication skills, required to develop and maintain relationships with customers, peers, and industry contacts.
  • Excellent coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to retrieve and enter information using various proprietary software applications and create/modify documents and complex spreadsheets using Microsoft Office suite.
  • Position requires regular travel.
