Reliability Engineering Department
The Reliability Engineering Team is responsible for the overall health of critical systems across Vantage global facilities. For each of the major systems Electrical, Mechanical, and Controls, the Reliability Engineering team is responsible for ensuring success in the commissioning stages of new construction, evaluating and improving the reliability and performance of existing critical infrastructure, sustaining equipment operational availability through maintenance program design, providing ongoing technical support to the Site Operations Teams, as well as providing systems reliability and maintainability feedback to the Design Engineering teams for future design considerations.
Position Overview
This role can be based in Phoenix, AZ; Santa Clara, CA; Quincy, WA; San Antonio, TX; New Albany, OH; or Ashburn, VA, in alignment with our flexible work policy (3 days in-office, 2 days flexible).
The Reliability Engineer - Mechanical Audit is responsible for auditing, analyzing, and enhancing the operational integrity of critical mechanical systems across Vantage Data Centers. This role focuses on the systematic assessment of installed mechanical systems, validation of maintenance practices, identification of reliability risks, and providing technical recommendations for continuous improvement. The Mechanical Audit Engineer ensures that systems operate at peak performance, maintain compliance with operational standards, and drive long-term reliability initiatives.
Essential Job Functions
System Auditing and Compliance:
Conduct mechanical system audits to verify equipment functionality, maintenance compliance, and operational effectiveness.
Review commissioning and maintenance documentation to ensure alignment with reliability standards.
Attend system startup and facility acceptance testing to validate installation quality and performance.
Document compliance gaps and develop remediation plans with clear timelines
Create standardized audit protocols that can be implemented across all locations
Maintenance Program Validation:
Audit and assess existing mechanical maintenance programs for completeness, effectiveness, and operational risk mitigation.
Recommend enhancements to preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
Verify compliance with vendor recommendations and industry best practices.
Reliability Risk Management:
Perform root cause analysis (RCA) following equipment failures or anomalies.
Identify and document reliability risks and develop corrective action plans.
Conduct system failure mode and effects analyses (FMEA) and propose mitigation strategies.
Lead cross-functional reliability improvement initiatives with measurable outcomes
Mentor site operations teams on advanced mechanical troubleshooting techniques
Design and Installation Review:
Audit new construction mechanical installations for maintainability, accessibility, and reliability best practices.
Review mechanical system drawings, submittals, and shop drawings for design risks impacting long-term reliability.
Interface with Design Engineering and Construction teams to recommend reliability improvements.
Training and Support:
Provide technical coaching and audit feedback to site operations teams on mechanical system best practices.
Assist Facility Operations teams in developing mechanical troubleshooting guides and reliability standards.
Performance and Data Analysis:
Analyze mechanical system performance trends and reliability metrics.
Provide data-driven reports and recommendations to improve system uptime and reduce lifecycle costs.
Support strategic planning for equipment replacement based on performance audits and end-of-life analyses.
Implement energy efficiency improvements without compromising reliability
Additional Duties:
Handle additional responsibilities and projects as assigned by Management.
Job Requirements
Education:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
Experience:
2-4 years of experience in mechanical system operations, maintenance auditing, or reliability engineering within critical facilities (e.g., data centers, hospitals, industrial facilities).
Skills and Qualifications:
Strong understanding of mechanical system design, operation, and maintenance.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
Experience with Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) principles.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical information clearly.
Ability to work independently across multiple sites and prioritize tasks effectively.
Up to 25% travel expected; may vary based on business needs.

Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including your qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
Salary Range: $110,000 - $120,000 Base + Bonus (this range is based on Arizona market data and may vary in other locations)
