Power and Recovery Engineer

Role

This role will support the efficient operation, maintenance, housekeeping and safety of the Mill Power, Recovery, and Reaust Areas. The individual in this role will work within the operations team to continuously improve health and safety performance, environmental compliance, production, quality metrics, and operating cost. These activities will be require working with people, processes and equipment associated with both the woodyard and fiberline, and will use a variety of tools including Lean Manufacturing and 6 Principles.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collect, analyze and use operational data to help drive process improvements.
  • Identify and evaluate the feasibility of new technological developments and best practices.
  • Recommend solutions for application of best practices in operations inclusive of recommending, justifying, and supporting Capital Budget projects.
  • Serve on committees, task forces and teams as assigned.
  • Assist with development and improvement of operational practices and SOP's using sound engineering principles.
  • Provide hands on oversight and management of projects during planned and unplanned outages.
  • Assume supervisory responsibilities within the Power and Steam, Recovery, and Recaust Departments as required during vacations and sickness.
  • Assume weekend call out responsibilities on a scheduled, rotational basis.

Requirements

  • Education - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or 5 years of equivalent job experience.

  • Competencies

  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts and operations related to engineering design, computational analysis, reliability and statistical methods, etc.

  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases.

  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

  • Strong communication skills needed both internally and externally at senior-management levels. Provides expertise to teams, both internally and externally.

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from operators, maintenance, managers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

  • Ability to write technical documents and reports in prescribed style and format.

  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or regulatory agencies.

  • Computer Skills

  • MS Office Suite and MS Project proficiency

  • SAP familiarity a plus

  • AutoCAD familiarity

  • Work Environment -

  • Varies from office setting to loud, hot & humid manufacturing environment both indoor and outdoor. Role requires the ability to travel throughout the facility while using stairs, ladders, elevated platforms, and elevators.

  • Must be able to maintain SCBA qualifications and use
