Civil CAD Technician
Job Description

This Civil CAD Technician role supports a dedicated civil site development team, producing detailed drawings and models for industrial, commercial, automotive, aluminum, and general site development projects across Indiana. You will work closely with civil engineers and architects, using AutoCAD and Civil 3D to translate design concepts into accurate, constructible plans. This position offers a strong platform for long-term growth in the civil engineering industry within a stable, well-established consulting environment.

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed 2D and 3D civil site drawings for grading, drainage, utilities, parking lots, access roads, and industrial site layouts using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Build Civil 3D models, including surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors, and grading models to support engineering design and analysis.
  • Prepare complete construction plan sets, including site layout plans, grading and drainage plans, utility plans, erosion control sheets, and detailed sections and cross-sections.
  • Interpret and process topographic survey data, boundary surveys, and ALTA/NSPS surveys to develop accurate base maps and design-ready drawings.
  • Revise and update drawings based on engineer redlines, client feedback, and field adjustments, ensuring all changes are clearly documented.
  • Maintain CAD standards, including layer management, file organization, and adherence to local, state, and industry drafting standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with civil engineers, architects, and project managers to translate design concepts into precise technical drawings and models.
  • Perform occasional field verification visits to project sites to gather data, confirm existing conditions, and support accurate design work.
  • Assist with basic quantity calculations, including material takeoffs, cut and fill estimates, and other supporting calculations for design and construction.
  • Support multiple projects across industrial, commercial, automotive, and aluminum sectors, helping to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables.
Essential Skills
  • At least 2 years of professional experience utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D for civil site development projects.
  • Professional experience working at a civil engineering firm or on civil engineering projects.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D for drafting, modeling, and plan production.
  • Ability to produce civil drawings for land development and site development, including grading, drainage, and utility layouts.
  • Experience working with survey data to create civil base maps and design drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow and maintain CAD and drafting standards.
  • Ability to interpret engineering markups and redlines and accurately update drawings.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with engineers, architects, and project managers.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple drawings, files, and project deadlines in a consulting environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Ability to perform basic design calculations is a plus, though not required for this role.
  • Exposure to underground wet utility design is beneficial.
  • Desire to grow and develop within the civil engineering industry, including expanding technical CAD and project support skills.
  • Interest in working on a variety of projects across automotive, aluminum, industrial, and commercial sectors.
  • Willingness to perform occasional field visits for verification and data collection.
  • Openness to educational opportunities and cross-disciplinary exposure within architecture, engineering, and surveying.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Evansville, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $33.00/hr.
