The Senior Industrial Engineer serves as a key technical and analytical leader responsible for internal production capacity, flow, efficiency, and execution readiness within a manufacturing environment. This role acts as the primary collector and analyst of production data, translating operational insights into actionable recommendations that support critical business and capital decisions.

The role partners cross-functionally with Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and shop-floor personnel, including material management and operators. Responsibilities include leading structured improvement events that bring together cross-functional teams to develop optimized processes, standardized work, and benchmarking practices.

This position directly impacts manufacturing performance, operational execution, and capital planning through continuous improvement initiatives under leadership guidance. The role may evolve into a people leadership position as the industrial engineering function expands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary authority on manufacturing capacity, process flow, and constraints, providing data-driven input for staffing, scheduling, and delivery decisions.
  • Develop and maintain labor and equipment capacity models to support production planning.
  • Perform machine and process capacity analysis; lead initiatives to improve efficiency and equipment effectiveness.
  • Establish and sustain standard work, labor standards, and productivity models for costing, planning, and performance tracking.
  • Assess operational impacts of engineering changes, product introductions, and scheduling adjustments.
  • Lead value stream mapping efforts to identify waste, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities tied to measurable results.
  • Support implementation of connected manufacturing technologies and ensure accurate data signals from capable equipment.
  • Provide recommendations and analysis for capital investments, including return on investment and implementation support.
  • Design and optimize manufacturing layouts, work cells, and material flow using data-driven methods.
  • Serve as a technical resource for complex production challenges related to efficiency, flow, or capacity limits.
  • Support new product introductions through labor modeling, capacity planning, documentation, and training preparation.
  • Develop analytical tools, templates, and visual management systems to support decision-making and standardization.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement events, ensuring execution and sustainability of outcomes.
  • Capture undocumented knowledge and convert it into standardized procedures.
  • Conduct time studies, process analysis, and contribute to ergonomic and safety evaluations.
  • Maintain labor standards used for costing, quoting, and long-range planning.
  • Train and mentor team members and contribute to development of the industrial engineering function.
  • Collaborate with leadership on future manufacturing strategies, including automation and workforce planning.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Proven ability to analyze data and translate insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., spreadsheets); experience with advanced tools (e.g., scripting, databases, or visualization software) is a plus.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple functional teams.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work authorization in applicable jurisdiction may be required based on project or contractual needs.
