Electrical Engineer Power Systems (Hardware Senior Principal Engineer)

Join us as a Electrical Engineer Power Systems on our Concept Engineering team in Hopkinton, MA or Round Rock, TX to do the best work of your career and make a profound social impact.

Dell's Concept Engineering organization is responsible for exploring the boundaries of nextgeneration datacenter and AI server architectures. Our crossfunctional team develops earlyphase designs, proofofconcept systems, and technology demonstrations that influence Dell's long-term product strategy. We work at the intersection of electrical, mechanical, thermal, and system architecture to define what comes next.

What you'll achieve

We are seeking a highly experienced Electrical Engineer specializing in highcurrent and highvoltage power distribution. If you have designed power distribution systems for demanding environments-such as electric vehicles, industrial power systems, highdensity compute platforms, or advanced energy storage-this role will leverage your deep expertise.

You will architect and design high-current DC bus bars, power shelves, HV/LV distribution networks, and highpower PCB assemblies that support the next generation of AI compute platforms and datacenter rack-level architectures. This is an earlyconcept role: you will explore new technologies, build prototypes, evaluate new materials, and guide systemlevel decisions long before products enter development.

You will:

  • Lead the design, architecture, and analysis of highcurrent, lowvoltage DC powerdistribution systems (1 kW-100 kW+) for AI server and rackscale platforms, including bus bars, highpower PCBAs, and earlyphase powerdelivery concepts
  • Develop racklevel powerdelivery components such as power shelves and battery interfaces, creating systemlevel topologies focused on safety, thermal performance, and electrical integrity
  • Perform advanced simulations for current density, thermal behavior, electromagnetic/inductive/resistive effects, isolation/creepage/clearance, and EMI/EMC in highcurrent applications
  • Collaborate crossfunctionally with mechanical, thermal, and architecture teams to deliver manufacturable, scalable designs and support rapid prototyping, bringup, and early validation
  • Document designs, drive trade studies, stay current on materials/connector technologies, and contribute to product strategy for nextgeneration AI server powerdelivery platforms

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) with 10+ years of experience in highpower electrical system design across EV power paths, industrial/UPS systems, or highcurrent DC/HV distribution
  • Expertise in designing highcurrent DC bus bars, power shelves, and highpower distribution assemblies
  • Strong experience with highcurrent PCB design, including heavycopper layouts, embedded bus bars, and >100 Amps trace design
  • Deep understanding of UL/IEC safety standards, creepage/clearance requirements, and powersystem protection principles
  • Strong crossfunctional communication skills with the ability to operate effectively in earlyconcept, ambiguous design environments

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience with rackscale or serverlevel power architectures, AI server design constraints (thermal, mechanical, interconnect), and handson work such as rapid prototyping, custom busbar fabrication, or HV system bringup
  • Strong proficiency with simulation tools, including multiphysics solvers (Ansys, COMSOL), SPICE/PLECS for powersystem modeling, and thermalanalysis tools for highcurrent conductors
