DXP Enterprises is seeking a Applications Engineer to support the continued growth of the Vacuum & Blower Technologies product group. This role will serve as the primary first-response resource for inbound digital leads, e-commerce inquiries, and fast-turn customer requests generated through Manufacturer's Edge, Pump Catalog, and other digital channels.
This is a desk-based technical sales role, not a traditional Applications Engineer, Outside Sales or Business Development Manager position. The ideal candidate is a highly responsive, technically curious "keyboard warrior" who can quickly answer customer questions, use product selection tools, apply established pricing guidance, coordinate with suppliers, and route larger opportunities to the appropriate DXP regional sales or BDM resource.
The role is designed to capture incremental transactional business while supporting DXP's broader field sales organization.
Responsibilities of the Applications Engineer include, but are not limited to:
- Respond quickly to inbound customer inquiries from Manufacturer's Edge, Pump Catalog, web forms, chat, email, phone, and other digital lead sources
- Serve as the first technical point of contact for customers seeking vacuum pumps, blowers, accessories, replacement products, or basic application support
- Use product selection tools, catalogs, supplier portals, pricing guidelines, and internal resources to identify suitable product options
- Prepare fast-turn quotes for standard or transactional vacuum and blower products.
- Coordinate with suppliers to confirm pricing, availability, lead times, technical details, and documentation
- Route larger, engineered, or relationship-driven opportunities to the appropriate DXP BDM, regional sales team, or applications resource
- Support lead qualification and ensure opportunities are properly documented, tracked, and followed up
- Help maintain product data, part numbers, pricing information, and supporting documentation for the digital sales platform
- Work with Manufacturer's Edge and internal DXP stakeholders to improve the online customer experience and lead capture process
- Support the Vacuum & Blower Technologies team with overflow inquiries, basic customer follow-up, quote support, and administrative sales activities as needed
- Help identify patterns in customer inquiries, common product needs, and future opportunities for product line expansion
- Maintain a high level of urgency, professionalism, and responsiveness with customers and internal stakeholders
Qualifications of the Applications Engineer include, but are not limited to:
- 2-5 years of experience in inside sales, technical sales support, customer service, product support, applications support, distribution, or industrial equipment sales.
- High computer literacy - comfortable working at a desk in a fast-paced digital environment
- Ability to respond quickly and professionally to customer inquiries by email, phone, chat, and web-based platforms
- Technical savvy - aptitude and willingness to learn vacuum pumps, blowers, accessories, applications, and related terminology
- Ability to use catalogs, selection guides, pricing tools, CRM systems, supplier portals, and internal databases
- Strong attention to detail, especially with part numbers, specifications, pricing, and customer requirements
- Ability to distinguish between simple transactional opportunities and larger technical opportunities that require escalation
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills
- Comfortable working independently while coordinating with BDMs, suppliers, applications resources, and regional sales teams
- Customer-focused mindset with a sense of urgency
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with vacuum pumps, blowers, compressors, pumps, rotating equipment, industrial automation, or related industrial products
- Experience in technical inside sales, distributor sales, OEM customer support, service quoting, aftermarket parts sales, or application support
- Familiarity with e-commerce, web-based lead generation, chat support, or digital sales platforms
- Experience working with industrial manufacturers, distributors, or MRO customers
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is technically curious, highly responsive, and comfortable managing a high volume of small but important customer interactions. This person does not need to be a degreed engineer, but they must be capable of learning technical products, using available tools, and knowing when to escalate complex opportunities.
This role requires someone who enjoys solving customer problems quickly, working through product details, using digital tools, and supporting a growing national product group.
Success Measures
- Fast response time to inbound digital leads and customer inquiries
- Accurate qualification and routing of larger opportunities to BDMs and regional sales teams
- Growth in transactional vacuum and blower revenue through Manufacturer's Edge / Pump Catalog and other digital channels
- Improved capture of small-dollar opportunities that may not currently receive field sales attention
- Clean documentation of leads, quotes, customer interactions, and follow-up activity
- Positive feedback from customers, BDMs, regional sales teams, suppliers, and Manufacturer's Edge
