Overview
A Design Engineer I designs battery components and tooling for automotive battery production equipment under the guidance/mentorship of experience design engineers as assigned from the department Manager/Director. A Design Engineer I will perform routine engineering tasks under the direction of the department manager and experienced design engineers while gaining the skills needed to lead and manage projects independently.
Responsibilities
- Provide Engineering support to Manufacturing, Quality, H&S, Sales, Costing, and Maintenance on Automotive products, equipment, and tooling.
- Prepare and deliver information, technical reports, and presentations to management, customers, vendors, and technical partners.
- Contribute to concept generation and ideation processes.
- Maintain and protect the confidentiality of proprietary information.
- Perform other duties which may become essential to the position.
- Participate in regular technical reviews throughout all phases of a project.
- Interact with production and engineering at all levels.
- Track and record time spent on tasks and projects.
- Travel worldwide for the company as required (approximately 5 days per year)
- Attend industry related technical conferences, seminars, and/or trade shows.
- Assist Engineers to interface with customers to design new products and support existing products
- May be involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and/or repair of mechanical equipment and tooling.
- Perform calculations and tests on products, equipment, and tooling as directed by a senior engineer.
- Apply knowledge of mechanical engineering principles to design products such as tooling, robots, machines, measuring devices, etc.
- Responsible for ordering/purchasing tooling from vendors, including EPM's Central Services.
- Contribute to bringing products from idea to proof of concept, through to the final, manufactural product.
- Assist in the design, development, integration, and testing of all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and instrumentation.
- Uses computer-aided design software and/or graphic tools to update drawings, design simple tooling, and design simple mechanical machines or mechanisms.
Qualifications
Experience & Qualifications
- Typically, with less than 5 years of Engineering experience.
- Familiarity with the battery construction process preferred.
Education/Certification
- Bachelor's degree or higher in an engineering or scientific discipline.
