Private Label Technical Designer - Outerwear / Apparel Location: New York, NYCompany: Q4 Designs (Private Label / Major Retail Accounts)Employment Type: Full-Time Position Overview We are seeking an experienced and detail-driven Private Label Technical Designer to support the development and production of outerwear and apparel for major retail partners. This role is highly focused on fit, construction, and execution, working closely with design, product development, and overseas vendors to ensure product consistency, quality, and on-time delivery. Key Responsibilities Create and manage technical packages (tech packs) including specs, grading, construction details, and BOMs Lead fit sessions from proto through PP stage, providing clear and actionable feedback to vendors Ensure fit consistency, measurement accuracy, and construction quality across high-volume programs Review and approve samples (proto, fit, SMS, PP) with detailed comments and corrections Collaborate with design and product teams to maintain design intent while ensuring cost and manufacturability targets Communicate daily with overseas factories and vendors to resolve technical and production issues Track development timelines and maintain WIP status to meet tight retail calendars Identify and troubleshoot fit, construction, and quality issues proactively Maintain all technical data, comments, and approvals in PLM system Support fabric, trim, and wash approvals in collaboration with cross-functional teams Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, or related field 7-10+ years of experience in technical design, preferably in private label or high-volume retail Strong knowledge of garment construction, fit, grading, and pattern making Extensive experience in outerwear (down, softshell, seam sealing, insulation) preferred Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and PLM systems Strong understanding of retail requirements and cost-driven development Ability to manage multiple styles under tight deadlines Strong communication skills with internal teams and overseas vendors Key Skills Advanced expertise in fit and garment construction Strong problem-solving and technical decision-making ability Detail-oriented with strong follow-through Ability to balance design intent, cost, and production feasibility Highly organized and process-driven Preferred Experience Experience working with major retail accounts such as Costco, Walmart, or similar Familiarity with high-volume production and calendar-driven development Knowledge of performance fabrics and functional outerwear construction Why Join Us Work on large-scale private label programs with major retailers Fast-paced environment with strong ownership and impact Opportunity to collaborate across design, development, and production teams
