The department of music and performing arts at Hampton University, which houses the BA in Music (Performance and Music Education Pre-Certification), BS in Music Technology, BS, in Audio Production, BA in Theatre (Performance and Technical Theatre) is seeking to fill a faculty position at the Assistant Professor level beginning Fall 2025. Duties and Responsibilities The successful candidate must be committed to teaching undergraduate courses, such as a Stagecraft, Lighting Design, Scene Design, and other discipline related topics. The individual will oversee the theatre performance space, construction shop, props, lights and other related areas. The successful candidate is expected design and lead construction of the set, lights, props and running crews for 3-4 shows per year. Candidates should demonstrate dedication to the progress of the Music and Performing Arts Department, the School of Liberal Arts and Education, and the university, through service activities. Qualifications Qualified candidate must have an earned BA or a BFA degree in technical theatre, or a closely related field from an accredited university. Experience in and evidence of successful teaching is preferred. Demonstrated achievement as a technical director and designer through a portfolio that documents, professional activity, and productions is required. Documented proficiency in stagecraft, lighting design, stage management, theory and practical skills in theatre is needed. Compensation is commensurate with the credentials and experience.
