The Mechanical and Reliability Department provides innovative solutions for electronic prototypes designed for advanced sensing, communication, and navigation systems. Areas of expertise include ground, airborne and shipboard systems. Engineers from the group are critical to all aspects of prototype or system development beginning with conceptual design, continuing through detail design, system integration and test, fabrication, and environmental testing. We provide technical guidance through rigorous analytical, physical, and computational methods with data driven products to enhance decision making and risk management.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Provide mechanical expertise while working in cross-disciplinary teams that execute design, analysis, and fabrication activities to develop prototypes capable of supporting testing for Sponsor/Project impact
- Design prototypes using CAD (Solidworks), and consult with engineering and manufacturing teammates to ensure that designs are feasible
- Produce standard designs using CAD software and create assembly prints, mechanical drawings, and fabrication specifications
- Modify existing designs to correct for operational issues
- Develop and build prototypes and run tests to measure their level of function
- Record and evaluate test data, altering designs as necessary to bring them to safety, performance, and efficiency standards
- Consult with fabrication teams during prototype manufacturing, advising them on design specifications and providing physical assistance when required
- Calculate cost estimates for final prototype designs, and release reports to internal customers, incorporating costs of labor, material, and delivery
- Provide assistance for fielding prototype equipment during test and evaluation events
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field, with 5 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of related education and experience
- Investigative mind inclined toward developing practical solutions to real-world problems
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in 3D CAD systems (SolidWorks preferred) and Microsoft Office products
- Willingness to travel (up to 20%)
- Effective documentation, presentation, and composition skills
- Eligibility to obtain a DoD Secret clearance
- Per the U.S. Governments eligibility requirements, you must be a U.S Citizen to be considered for a security clearance.
- This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience performing mechanical design engineering for electronic prototypes
- Understanding of machine tool practices for fabrication (machining, sheet metal and welding)
