Kforce has a client that is seeking a Chief Engineer in Tempe, AZ.

Overview:The Chief Engineer is responsible for leading the design and development of advanced products supporting internally and externally funded research and development initiatives. This role oversees the full product lifecycle-from concept through prototype, testing, and transition into production-ensuring all products meet defined technical and performance requirements.

The Chief Engineer also plays a critical role in reviewing technical deliverables, driving engineering standards, supporting business development efforts, and mentoring engineering teams. This position requires a high level of autonomy and leadership in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the design and development of new technologies and products using SolidWorks

Develop and review technical documentation, including:

  • Design reviews
  • Trade studies
  • Test plans and reports
  • Requirements tracking documentation
  • Oversee prototype builds, product qualification, and transition to production
  • Maintain and improve legacy production products and engineering processes
  • Establish and track key performance metrics for development programs
  • Develop and standardize engineering procedures and best practices
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product delivery
  • Support and contribute to bids and proposal efforts
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and development for engineering team members* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in product development, including leadership responsibilities
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and leadership skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to operate with minimal oversight
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks

Strong understanding of:

  • ASME Y14.100 (engineering drawing practices)
  • ASME Y14.5 (GD&T standards)
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
  • Experience supporting regulated or complex product development environments (e.g., aerospace, defense, or similar industries)
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams
