Summary
The Assembly Design Engineer will be responsible for creating and maintain asystem of standard design elements used in high performance coaxial cableassemblies and group B kits. This position will serve as subject matter experton materials, components, techniques and methods.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work as primary Assembly Design Engineer to assist in continual improvementof design and "design for manufacturing" DFM featuresStandardize design and manufacturing methods to maximize consistency in ahigh mix, custom manufacturing environmentEvaluate, select and specify materials used in the design ofhigh-performance cable assemblies and cable harnessesMake mechanical and electrical design calculations for tensile, torque,crush, vapor sealing, loss, phase, VSWR and other critical design attributesusing established engineering practicesDevelop and test prototypes and/or perform RF simulations and analysis tooptimize designs prior to releaseResearch new materials and processes as required to support adverseenvironments and other exotic applicationsWork with suppliers and internal partners to assure/improvemanufacturability of new and existing designsWork closely with sales and applications engineering on new products and newmarkets by assisting with ideas and converting ideas into workable designsProvide design solutions while being mindful of form, fit, function,manufacturability, and costResearch relevant component and technical resources in support of projectobjectivesConstantly seek to improve design capabilities through study, reading,observation, and evaluationAssure all design work meets pertinent customer and industry standards,particularly safety and qualityReviewing/troubleshooting of documentation related to manufacturing andtesting of RF coaxial cable assembliesAssist in identifying root cause of mechanical and electrical failures onthe production floor
Qualifications/Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering orsimilar fieldThorough knowledge of MIL-STD-348 and IEEE 287 interfaces Familiar withMIL-DTL-38999 interconnect systems Detailed understanding of IPC-620 workmanship standards Detailedunderstanding of modern machining operations and cutting tool technologyProficient with RF and Microwave test equipmentExperience with CST or similar RF simulation softwareExcellent problem-solving skills and high attention to detailAbility to organize design effort, keep orderly documentation and handlemultiple tasks, assignments, and projects simultaneouslyDemonstrated ability to exercise good judgment, provide technical insightinto problems and deliver effectiveness in completing job assignmentsExperience with Microsoft Office, AutoCad, Draftsight and SolidWorksExperience with mechanical component designFamiliarity with Military Standards and test requirements preferred
