Job Summary:

The Design Engineer will provide services in mechanical and manufacturing engineering and design for new and existing customers. Will prepare plans and technical drawings needed before an object can be put into production. Fills in technical details, turning sketches and notes into precise and detailed plans, providing the visual guidelines needed using Solid Works program in order to prepare drawings.

Is responsible for the entire project cycle of products to include design, development, and estimating time needed for project completion. Additional responsibilities will include manufacturing process improvements, cost reductions, and fixturing.

Primary Job Duties:

Wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Prepares engineering analysis of projects to include design and layout, calculation, cycle costs and equipment selection.

Prepares product layout and detailed drawings and schematics and interprets blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts and other visual aids.

Performs mechanical design duties for the design, fabrication and painting processes.

Identifies, reviews, and implements process improvement ideas to increase manufacturing efficiencies and reduce costs.

Compiles and analyzes operational, test and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified product.

Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.

Develops Bills of Material and preliminary design for estimating.

Uses computer-aided drafting software (Solid Works) to create new and correct existing drawings and designs to meet engineering specifications.

Ensures that drafting's project folders are complete, current and filed appropriately.

Manages projects and time frames ensuring timely turnaround on all quotes.

Job Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of advanced math skills, ability to understand abstract principles behind math and physics.

Proficiency in working knowledge of Solid Works (solid modeling including sheet metal design).

Ability to create and modify sheet metal part models.

Ability to create mechanical part and assembly models.

Ability to create detailed mechanical drawings.

Ability to work hands-on with product for review and evaluation.

Understand mechanical characteristics of common industry metals such as stainless steel, cold rolled steel and hot rolled steel.

Strong understanding of product structures including bills of material and routings.

Some education in manufacturing (or mechanical) design and SolidWorks is required.

BS in mechanical or manufacturing engineering or BS/BA in industrial design would be preferred.

Ideally 3+ years of design engineering experience.

Results oriented / self-starter (independent)

Experience with handling multiple complex projects simultaneously

Ability to work in a team environment

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Special Working Conditions

8-hour shift (some overtime may be required), Monday - Friday

OT as required by customer demands

Office environment

Noisy environment

Some repetition

May sit for prolonged periods
