Job Summary
We are seeking a Design Engineering Manager to lead and oversee product design and development activities within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for managing design engineering staff, supporting new product development, and ensuring designs meet all functional, quality, and manufacturing requirements.
The ideal candidate brings strong leadership experience, deep technical knowledge in product design and injection molding, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with sales, production, and quality teams. This individual will play a key role in driving innovation, supporting customer needs, and ensuring high-quality design output from concept through production.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience required
5-10 years of experience in design engineering and/or leadership role
Strong leadership and team management capabilities
Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work with customers and internal teams
Proficiency in CATIA; familiarity with SolidWorks, Moldflow, and CAE tools preferred
Knowledge of injection molding processes and manufacturing methods
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
Willingness to travel, including occasional overnight trips
Valid driver's license with a safe driving record
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
Experience with CAE analysis tools (FEA, Moldflow)
Knowledge of DFMEA and control plans
Experience supporting product development from concept through production
Familiarity with patent review and design compliance considerations
Background in material selection and customer material specifications
Experience supporting quoting and budget planning for new projects
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Lead and manage design and development staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation
Provide guidance and support on 3D modeling, solid modeling, and design best practices
Support sales teams with innovative design solutions and new business development
Review and approve designs to ensure accuracy and manufacturability prior to production
Utilize CAE tools (FEA, Moldflow) to validate product performance and manufacturability
Assist in budget planning and quoting for new projects and engineering changes
Support staff in concept development, including sketches and early-stage models
Ensure designs comply with existing patents and identify opportunities for new patentable features
Collaborate with quality teams using DFMEA and control plans to meet customer requirements
Provide design support to customers through meetings, drawings, and technical data exchange
Coordinate with production teams to ensure timely and accurate release of design documentation
Assist with material selection and interpretation of customer requirements
Support production facilities through on-site and remote troubleshooting and design adjustments
Participate in market research and product development initiatives
Travel to customer sites and other company locations as needed
Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership
Physical and Environmental Requirements
This role is primarily office-based with time spent in manufacturing environments as needed. Occasional travel to production facilities and customer sites is required. Work may involve extended periods at a computer and participation in on-site plant activities.
