Job Summary
This opportunity is with a large-scale manufacturing organization supporting wire drawing and cable winding operations in a high-volume, heavy industrial environment. The company is seeking an Industrial Controls Engineer with strong Siemens PLC troubleshooting and programming experience and a solid background in high-voltage electrical systems.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on, plant-based controls engineer who thrives in fast-paced manufacturing settings, works closely with maintenance and operations, and takes ownership of control system reliability and uptime. This role offers the chance to work on complex, continuous-process equipment in an extra-large facility while making a direct impact on safety, quality, and production efficiency.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Must-have qualifications that candidates must meet to be considered.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (controls, power, or automation focus required)
3+ years of experience as a Controls Engineer, Electrical Engineer, or Automation Engineer in a manufacturing environment
Hands-on experience troubleshooting PLC-based machine control systems
Siemens PLC programming and troubleshooting experience required
AutoCAD Electrical experience required, including electrical schematics and control drawings
Strong understanding of AC/DC circuits, industrial power distribution, MCCs, and high-voltage systems
Experience working directly on the plant floor in live production environments
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
Nice-to-have skills that would make a candidate more competitive but are not required.
Experience in wire, cable, metals, continuous process, or other heavy manufacturing environments
Experience with drives, motors, and industrial communication networks
Commissioning, startup, and system upgrade experience
Strong root-cause analysis and continuous improvement mindset
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Outline key tasks and expectations for the role.
Troubleshoot and resolve malfunctions in PLC-based machine control systems
Develop and modify PLC and HMI programs to improve efficiency, reliability, and product quality
Lead start-to-finish electrical control system design, including panel layout, field wiring, and schematics
Participate in commissioning and upgrades of new or existing automation systems
Recommend and implement improvements to enhance production uptime, safety, and quality
Collaborate with operators, maintenance technicians, and cross-functional teams to resolve issues quickly
Physical and Environment Requirements
Outline Physical Requirements and the Environment
Physical expectations and working conditions associated with the job may include standing (approximately 10%), walking (approximately 50%), and sitting (approximately 25%), lifting up to 15 lbs, and frequent work on the plant floor across various shifts. The environment includes both office and manufacturing settings with exposure to loud noise, extreme heat or cold, and variable production demands. Overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required as business needs dictate. Up to 10% domestic travel may be required.
