Design Engineer

Job Description

This position involves conducting research and creating designs for new products, as well as enhancing the characteristics of existing company products. The role requires expertise in product design, material selection, design timeline management, prototyping, and tooling and fixture design.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize computer-aided design/drafting software (SolidWorks CAD) to develop designs.
  • Develop engineering drawings and specifications using advanced drafting practices for manufacturing.
  • Create and revise production drawings.
  • Design and construct drawings for new products and improvements on existing products.
  • Create parts lists and establish concepts, performance, and production criteria.
  • Identify and select materials needed for production.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and vendors to ensure specifications, performance, control limits, and quality standards are met.
  • Understand patents and work within the confines of patented claims.
  • Ensure new designs are delivered on time and complete.
  • Design, model, and test prototypes for products.
  • Establish design briefs and make samples of working models for demonstrations.
  • Create engineering drawings for manufacturing jigs and fixtures.
  • Assist Quality Assurance with identifying critical dimension call outs.
  • Communicate with Tooling, QA, Engineering, and Manufacturing regarding new and revised prints.
  • Identify quality issues and implement problem resolutions.
  • Implement hands-on solutions to product changes and implementations.
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with managers and personnel within the company.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelors degree in engineering with coursework in design and manufacturing, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of computer design and engineering software.
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience with SolidWorks and Catia.
  • Experience with project management and planning, molding equipment, and foam molding.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • 5 years of experience in a manufacturing/production environment, preferably in the automotive industry.
  • Basic operating knowledge of foam molding processes and equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead small cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Self-motivated and able to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of up-to-date manufacturing techniques.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Japanese and/or Spanish is a plus.
Work Environment

This position operates Monday through Friday with 8-hour workdays, fully onsite, with the potential to transition to one remote day. The role is based in a professional office environment with a noise level ranging from quiet to moderate. Occasionally, work will be performed in a plant environment, which may expose the employee to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and wet areas, with noise levels potentially being loud.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $45.00/hr.
