The Design Engineer is responsible for working as a team member in designing and developing new products and changes to existing products. The Design Engineer is focused on the design of machined, injection molded, and additively manufactured products related to firearms and their accessories. Must have a firm grasp of Engineering principles and experience designing mechanical components. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, balance workload with multiple priorities, and take multiple paths to resolve issues, including using their own technical skills. Job Responsibilities ? Develop proposals for new products and improvements to current product offerings. ? Manage multiple design projects, balancing priority and opportunity. ? Create solid models for prototypes, production components, and fixtures utilizing SolidWorks software. ? Create clear and effective drawings using industry best practices and ASME Y14.5 Standards. ? Establish and maintain items and BOMs within Unity Tactical's ERP System. ? Develop supporting documents such as Work Instructions, Specifications and Forms. ? Provide technical support to Sales and Customer Service. ? Create and handle change notices and necessary document control per Unity Tactical's procedures. ? Work closely with management to establish project scopes, lead times and budgets. ? Develop test procedures, perform product testing and provide detailed test reports/summaries. ? Provide production support on projects/products after completion ? Plan, manage, track, and report capital and expenses related to assigned projects. ? Provides manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests. ? Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations. ? Comply with safe work practices; understanding work injury procedures, workers comp, and safety standards. Work Environment: ? Works at a computer workstation regularly. ? The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud. ? Works with hazardous chemicals. ? Exposed to fumes and odors. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent. ? Minimum three (3) years of practical engineering and design experience required. ? Experience working in a manufacturing environment is required. ? Proficient in SolidWorks modeling, GD&T, and creation of detail/assembly product drawings. ? Familiarity with manufacturing & quality standards associated with the firearms industry is required. ? Knowledge of manufacturing processes relative to ferrous and non-ferrous metals, composite materials, and fabrication techniques. ? Must be an enthusiast in the firearms market Physical Requirements: ? Requires the ability to conduct testing of various small arms. Testing may be physically demanding and occur indoors or outdoors for long durations. ? Prolonged periods of standing, using tools, and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending, twisting, and stooping ? Must be able to lift to 50 pounds at a time. ? Must wear appropriate PPE based on the task, such as gloves, eye protection, ear protection, and masks/respirators
