Colson Group USA is seeking a Product Design Engineer. T he Product Design Engineer is responsible for managing research, analysis and design of new products and assemblies while improving existing processes and designs within our core product offering. Own the technical calculations and documentation release aspects of the product development cycle and work cross functionally with sales, operations, customer service, product management and quality to meet customer design objectives.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for creation of product design proposals to customers and Colson Group management. (Analysis, Drawings, Concepts, Costing, etc.)
  • D evelop design ideas based on customer interests and manufacturing to develop requirements and new products.
  • Preparation of product design layouts and detailed drawing specifications. Will perform CAD activities within SolidWorks and will ensure drawing specifications are complete and in accordance with ASME engineering standards.
  • Utilize PDM software tools for mechanical design, modeling and drawing creation.
  • Perform engineering FEA analyses to verify the strength and durability of design concepts.
  • Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GDT) as well as knowledge with manufacturing processes including castings, steel forgings, plastic molded components, and CNC machined components.
  • Knowledge of the mechanical properties of materials and processes such as heat treatment, cryogenic treatment and the effects on strength and durability are a plus.
  • Participate in design reviews, presenting technical information clearly and concisely to cross-functional audiences.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills utilizing hands on design for manufacturing principles.
  • Organization, communication and time-management skills for meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Solve design issues by use of a team based hands-on approach.
  • Must abide by all Colson Group policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.
  • Travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.

There is no sponsorship for this role. Applicants will need to either be a US citizen, a permanent resident, or have a visa that allows you to work without sponsorship (like an EB-1, O-1 , or EB-5 visa ).

Requirements

Knowledge

  • Bachelors degree in engineering or related field required.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks CAD, FEA and product development.
  • MS Office suite user with emphasis on Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Understanding of Product Lifecycle Management System.
  • Project management.
  • Knowledge of Caster design is desired but not required.
  • Ability to work well in a cross-functional team environment.

Experience

  • 4-7 years experience in CAD software. SolidWorks preferred.
  • 4 years experience of CNC/welding/Laser cutting manufacturing processes and material science including metals, plastics, poly and composites.
  • 2 years experience or certification within Design for Six Sigma.
  • 2 years experience with multilevel BOO/BOM in an MRP/ERP system
  • Manufacturing experience with metal stamping/forming, die cast and heat treat/plating.
