We are currently looking for a Design Engineer to join our team! The Design Engineer is responsible for the development, launch and technical support of products throughout the entire product development cycle. Development activities include product design, costing, selection and testing of materials, and preparation of all necessary engineering, manufacturing, and procurement documentation to ensure compliance with customer requirements. The Engineer is also responsible for supporting technical aspects of legacy products during manufacturing and sourcing activities. The Engineer actively monitors, measures, and responds to department metrics for new product introduction (NPI) execution, documentation availability and general project management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champions assigned projects through the NPD (New Product Development)/NPI (New Product Introduction) process.
  • Coordinate with the CAD Design and Drafting team to achieve deliverables on a timely basis.
  • Communicates with internal and external customers to determine product requirements and needs.
  • Collaborates with the team to design safety, quality, and productivity into product designs and fixtures
  • Ensures designs are manufacturable within capability of internal manufacturing processes.
  • Develops bill of materials, standard cost, and time observation data.
  • Ensures system data (I.e., bill of materials, labor times, work center structure, etc.) are complete and accurate.
  • Identifies and resolves department issues and seeks help when necessary.
  • Implements new product introduction (NPI) process improvements and takes necessary steps for compliance to processes across the organization.
  • Manages engineering and product data to ensure it is accurate, comprehensive, and available in a timely manner to support production.
  • Monitors work quality and productivity for recently launched products.
  • Researches, creates, and details specifications for purchasing to procure goods and services necessary to meet finished product requirements.
  • Identifies any gaps in standards and competencies in manufacturing technologies, industry specifications, drafting/design standards, and addresses through training or off-site education as appropriate.
  • Evaluates needs for testing of new and existing products and determines best methods to execute.
  • Provides technical support for preventative maintenance programs.
  • Leads by example and fosters a safe working environment.

  • Leads and participates in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering along with experience in managing established engineered products.
  • 3-5 years' engineering experience including leadership roles.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or similar software required.
  • Solid understanding of Product Data Management (PDM) tools.
  • Competency in metal working processes, equipment, and related design technologies.
  • Must be highly competent in engineering design parameters and specifications for common materials, finishes, and drafting standards.
  • Requires strong planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Should have strong organizational skills and foster cross functional team building.
  • Must exhibit leadership courage to influence the organization to achieve goals.
  • Requires an individual who is flexible, assertive, stress tolerant, and optimistic.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to perform the following with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, and reaches to work overhead.
  • Pushes and pulls materials, fingers and grasps parts and components.
  • Tolerates loud noise.
  • Sits and stands for a minimum of 8 hours with limited breaks.
  • Operates a computer extensively daily.
  • Demonstrates manual dexterity.
  • Performs visual inspections.
  • Requires visual acuity to access details (I.e., office equipment, email, invoices, etc.)
  • Requires communication skills so ideas and instructions are clearly and/or quickly understood.
  • Requires the ability to distinguish between speech, machinery, and other sounds to understand instructions and/or directions.
