STS Technical Services is hiring a Mechanical Engineer to support TICO's vehicle design and manufacturing operations in Ridgeland, South Carolina. This is an exciting opportunity to work on advanced commercial vehicle systems, collaborate across engineering teams, and take part in projects that directly impact the performance, safety, and reliability of the next generation of fleet equipment.
Position Summary:
The Mechanical Engineer will support the design, development, testing, and production of commercial vehicle components and systems. This role requires hands-on problem solving, technical analysis, and the ability to communicate engineering solutions across departments. The ideal candidate is both detail-oriented and innovative, capable of delivering practical solutions to complex engineering challenges.
Responsibilities:
Design and develop mechanical control systems, components, and vehicle subsystems
Create and test 3D models and 2D schematics using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
Supervise manufacturing and installation of mechanical systems and components
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure projects meet quality and performance requirements
Research and implement new manufacturing methods to improve efficiency and reduce waste
Conduct system evaluations and participate in failure analysis and troubleshooting
Generate bills of material (BOM), product documentation, part specifications, and CAD files
Train and oversee technicians during prototype builds and testing procedures
Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean principles, 5S, and Kaizen methodologies
Translate complex technical ideas into clear, written engineering documentation
Remain current on industry trends and best practices through workshops, publications, and networking
Required Skills & Abilities:
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and control systems
Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks preferred) and 2D AutoCAD drafting
Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and optimize component-level and system-level designs
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Familiarity with fabrication, welding, machining, and assembly techniques
Ability to manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously
Working knowledge of robotics, lean manufacturing, and product development life cycle
Comfort with algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and mechanical design calculations
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
1-3 years of hands-on experience in mechanical engineering disciplines
Proficiency with AutoCAD and 3D modeling tools such as SolidWorks, Catia V5, or Pro-E
Working Conditions:
Office-based role with occasional time spent in production or warehouse settings
Required PPE includes safety shoes, safety glasses, and high-visibility vest per site protocols
Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk, stand, crouch, and lift up to 50 lbs as needed
