DIVISION INFO:
Located in Livonia, Michigan, the 120+ employee facility (100,000 sq. ft.) is one of Heroux-Devtek's centers of excellence for design, development, manufacturing, assembly and support of landing gear, actuation systems and other aerospace components.
As part of the Central Division you will lead P&L responsible for critical machining operations of major commercial aircraft programs supporting Boeing, LockHeed Martin, Parker Hannifan, and military initiatives such as the B-2 Stealth, F105, and V280.
With a strong focus on latest technology of the manufacturing processes with machining automation and techniques we aim to remain the best value producer of complex landing gear components.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Mechanical Design Engineer - Prototype is responsible for the design of electro-mechanical actuation systems. Additionally, the engineer will have conceptual design responsibility as well as system layouts and detail part level responsibility. This job description indicates the general nature and level of the work that is expected. It is not designed to contain a comprehensive or all-inclusive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities. Other duties may be required.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review customer documents and requirements to ensure requirements are properly negotiated and cascaded into the product development of electro-mechanical actuation designs.
Perform analysis, modeling and design of actuation systems with geartrain development, bearing selection, motor selection and motor controls.
Analyze design for manufacturability, life cycle of parts, cost / benefit analysis
Develop conceptual designs that can be used for technical proposals and costing
Request cost quotations and availability of parts or services from vendors
Product testing and release of designs into the engineering system, update design as changes are made and communicate changes to customer.
Constantly review current and new technology to be able to apply the best solutions to customer requirements. Particularly with motion controls, servomechanisms and electric motor drives.
Communicate performance, standards and timing requirements to vendors.
Manage multiple projects and use tracking software to monitor key milestones.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
Minimum of five years design experience with mechanical systems (i.e., actuation, transmissions)
Experience with design and analysis of motion control systems, including electric motors and drives, geartrain layout, and bearing analysis.
Proficiency using and understanding GD&T
Proficiency using computer based data entry systems such as MS Office
Proficiency using engineering software such as MathCad or PTC Creo
Experience with simulation tools (e.g. Matlab/Simulink).
Experience with DC motor controls from simple PWM brushed to BLDC and stepper motors.
Familiarity with EMI and RFI suppression techniques and testing.
Technical writing experience.
Knowledge of proactive and reactive problem-solving techniques (e.g. root cause analysis, red-x, fishbone diagram, fault tree analysis, etc.) to support issue resolution.
Strong communication, organizational skills, detail-oriented, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Must be proactive, self-driven, and capable of delivering presentations and trainings
