Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing intermediate level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives.

Job Description

What You'll Do:

Each of the positions in the Engineering job family is responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of civil/structural engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives. The following are activities that will be performed, but not limited to:

  • Provide civil/structural engineering support for substation capital projects,
  • Work with project planners/sponsors, project leads and various stakeholders to develop the most effective design approach and solutions considering safety, cost, schedule, constructability, and operation and maintenance requirements
  • Assist project leads in the development of functional and detailed scoping documents and cost estimates
  • Assist project managers with the development and maintenance of station engineering activities and deliverables within Primavera P6 project schedules
  • Work closely with consulting engineering firms contracted to perform station engineering and design functions on select projects
  • Provide support to construction and professional field service personnel to resolve issues and concerns during the construction phase of projects
  • Provide project close-out data on projects as requested and conduct construction site meetings to determine lessons learned regarding technical issues and quality
  • Collaborate with various departments during the course of the project
  • Perform mathematical calculations required to accomplish assigned work. These might include:

- Calculations for sizing and design of oil containment systems

- Calculations for analysis and design of substation structures, foundations and rigid-bus

- Sag-tension calculations for strain bus design

  • Competence in the use of computer aided design software
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software
  • Proficiency in the use of structural analysis software preferred (i.e. RISA, Autodesk Robot)

Technical Expertise: Possesses advanced knowledge and performs varied assignments with proficiency in the application of theory and analytical techniques to solve diverse problems and complete extensive analyses. Understands interrelationship between systems and component equipment. Analyzes and recommends enhancements to business processes.

Leadership and Guidance: Coordinates work activities of others within the work group, department, or other corporate entity as necessary to perform routine engineering work. Performs routine engineering activity independently. Provides training and guidance to lower-level employees. Planning and Organizational Ability: Develops input necessary to forecast costs for the routine projects, improvements requisitions, etc.

Problem Solving and Initiative: Resolves and initiates solutions to routine and/or moderately complex problems which usually require additional definition/clarification before analysis can begin. Identifies problems that are beyond the normal routine. Seeks out opportunities and embrace new ideas and approaches.

Communication Skills: Helps coordinate the work of other engineers in an efficient and effective manner.

Interpersonal Skills: Leads aspects of team effort. Effectively leverages skills developed from company programs such as Power Up & Lead.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Engineer - Grade 5:

($61,647.00 - $77,057)

This is an entry level position for new graduates with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*

  • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred.

Acceptable alternative is:

  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.

Engineer - Grade 6:

( $72,380 - $90,475 )

  • Has typically acquired 2 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*.

  • Individuals with a Master's degree in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET* may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.

Acceptable alternative is:

  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.

Engineer - Grade 7:

( $85,081 - $106,354 )

  • Has typically acquired 4 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*; or 2 years of related engineering experience along with a Masters degree in engineering from a program accredited by ABET* .

  • Individuals with a PhD in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET* may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico** is encouraged and preferred.

Acceptable alternative is:

  • A Bachelors degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Masters degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelors program.** Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards.

Engineer - Grade 8:

(96,110.00 - 124,941.00)

  • Has typically acquired 6 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*; or 4 years of related engineering experience along with a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET*

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico** is encouraged and preferred.

Acceptable alternative is:

  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.* Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards.
