Position: Automation Engineer

Position Summary: The Automation Engineer plays a key role in ensuring the successful execution of capital equipment projects, overseeing everything from design and development to field installation and commissioning. This position involves collaborating with a team to create innovative, customer-centric solutions for web handling and film converting machinery.
Essential Functions:
- Design, develop, and implement control systems using Rockwell and/or Beckhoff PLCs, ensuring optimal performance and reliability of automated systems.
- Create electrical diagrams and schematics using Solidworks Electrical and AutoCAD software.
- Configure and program Human-Machine Interface (HMI) software, including PanelView and/or Optix, to provide user-friendly control and monitoring for operators.
- Develop and implement robotics controls for Fanuc and Yamaha robots, optimizing their integration within product handling, packing, and palletizing systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and improve automation solutions for product handling, case packing, cartoning, palletizing, and inspection systems.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize control systems to ensure minimal downtime and maximum system efficiency.
- Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams to resolve control system-related issues.
- Develop and maintain documentation for electrical and control systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Competencies:
- Proficiency in Rockwell and/or Beckhoff control systems, including programming and troubleshooting.
- Strong experience with Solidworks Electrical and/or AutoCAD for creating electrical drawings and schematics.
- Expertise in HMI software, specifically PanelView and/or Optix.
- Hands-on experience with robotics control, particularly with Fanuc and Yamaha systems.
- Knowledge of product handling, case packing, cartoning, palletizing, and inspection systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with internal teams and customers.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Willingness to travel for site installations, commissioning, and customer support as needed.

Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods while working at a desk or computer.
- Capacity to use standard office equipment such as computer, telephone, and videoconferencing.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
- Ability to navigate manufacturing floor environment, which may include walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs, and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to tolerate exposure to moderate levels of noise, vibration, and varying temperatures in a manufacturing environment.
- Capacity to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, ear protection, and hard hat as needed.
- Ability to follow health and safety guidelines and protocols including emergency procedures.
- Regular, predictable attendance is required.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Minimum of five years' experience with Automation.
- Proven track record of innovation or market focused problem solving.
- Experience with robotics integration, product handling, casepacking, palletizing, etc. highly desired.
- Prior experience with custom machine building preferred.
