Job Title: Manufacturing Product Engineer - Mountain View Company: Google Location: Mountain View, CA Description: The area: Operations & IT, Manufacturing and Supply Chain Google requires a world class supply chain to deliver the computer and networking equipment for its ever-expanding global data centers. Our team is made up of engineers and supply chain professionals who design, build and manage that supply chain. The focus is not just on cost and delivery but how to best manufacture Google's confidential and proprietary internal computer hardware. The role: Manufacturing Product Engineer The Manufacturing Product Engineer is an integral part of Google’s Platform Development Team, assisting the Team in readying Google Platform hardware for release to production. Once released to production, the Manufacturing Product Engineer provides front line support of Google Platform hardware from production release through end of life. The two basic responsibilities for this role include NPI Support, and Sustaining Engineering. Responsibilities: On-site support for pre-production builds at CM/ODM, to include driving pre-production factory readiness, supporting product bring-up, providing training and gathering feedback on DFx and yield issues. Engineering DVT (Design Validation Testing) support, and coordinating with Test Engineering to establish test coverage requirements for manufacturing test process. Work with Platform Development team to establish parameters for monitoring health of fleet, and drive program in support of early field failure analysis. Front line for Production and Remanufacturing product issues, monitor health of fleet and initiate investigation of problem areas, and root cause product failures and drive corrective action. Coordinate release of NPI BOMs into PDM system, technical review of product changes through supply chain and in field, support second source and EOL replacement part qualification, and release of ECOs, MCOs, FCOs. Requirements: BS or MS Electrical Engineering or equivalent. At least 5 years of Product Development or Product Engineering, preferably at a Server, Networking or Disk Drive company. Successfully created and executed a Design Validation Test Plan on a complex electronic assembly. Understanding of BOM structures and PDM systems such as Winchill or Agile. SQL and scripting experience a plus.

In addition to design the individual will be responsible for sourcing and developing the global supply base, generating component specifications, and qualification of the components for production. Role & Responsibilities: Leads the design and global sourcing effort of key hot box components. Identifies manufacturing processes and design elements to improve cost, scalability and manufacturability. Engages with design, manufacturing and quality to identify and lead continuous improvement and cost reduction activities. Develops product or equipment specification and performance requirements to determine manufacturing methods and level of automation appropriate for labor costs and scale. Approves all vendor equipment run-off and run at rate qualifications, architects process accordingly. Applies standard engineering techniques, analysis, procedures, and criteria in specific situations. Produces and correlates data. Recognizes discrepancies in results. Investigates problems, identifies optimal solutions and makes preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives. Oversees manufacturing development of key components including Control Plans, DFSS, PFMEAs, and Process Flow Diagrams. Leads vendor qualification and ongoing vendor production, quality, and cost assessments, coordinating in country resources to achieve rapid development and qualification. Conducts compliance and failure investigations. Estimates and manages capital requests for equipment within projects assigned.Education and Desired Experience: BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with a strong focus on investment casting processes, 8+ years design and manufacturing experience with high temperature materials, Proven design for production and cost optimization experience, Experience dealing with offshore sourcing and supply chains, Track record of successfully working within cross functional teams, driving change, and implementing new processes to significantly improve design efficiencies and cost, Manage effectively with multiple priorities under tight deadlines and bring assignments to successful completion, Lean manufacturing/Six Sigma experience , Strong verbal and written communication skills, fluent in English, High attention to detail and accuracy, High energy and self motivated.Client will make clean, reliable energy affordable for everyone in the world.
