Tyco Flow Control has an exciting opportunity for a Manuafacturing Engineer in our Harlingen, Texas location. The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for process development, production routings, time standard development, cost reduction development, cost estimating, capital equipment porcurement, enviornmental activities, and related EHS considerations necessary for saffe working conditions. . ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Assumes leadership role in developing, evaluating, and improving manufacturing methods. Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency. Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods. Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards. Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions. Extensive knowledge of cutting tools and their application. Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes. Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential. Provides support to manufacturing to ensure product is fabricated and assembled based on the intended functionality of the design. Develops and maintains procedures and processes that support core machine technologies. Develops and writes equipment specifications, performance requirements, cost analysis, and proposal for integrating machinery and equipment into manufacturing process. Prepares detailed quotations for fixture, tool, and engineering requirements to be used in developing a formal quote for customer. Coordinates all aspects of a job including tool design, fixture design, numerical control part programming, machine delivery, prove-out, and runoff of a part. Provides detailed documentation of a job including tool and fixture drawings, definition of setup, and operational procedures. Oversees installation to ensure machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications. Tests ability of machines to perform designated tasks. Determines parts supply, maintenance tasks, safety procedures, and service schedule required to maintain machines and equipment in prescribed condition. Participates in meetings, seminars, and training sessions to stay apprised of new developments in field. Confers with workers in other departments, such as marketing, legal, and engineering, to provide technical information. Develops and conducts training programs on the safe operations of the equipment, and demonstrates skills to trainees, including both team members and customers. Designs complex tools and fixtures and corrects NC programs for NC lathes and/or mills. Directs or conducts observation and analysis of personnel and work procedures to determine time-and-motion requirements of job duties. Analyzes work study data and equipment specifications to establish time and production standards. Applies mathematical analysis to determine validity and reliability of sampling and work study statistics. Trains Industrial Engineering personnel in time-and-motion study principles and techniques. Drafts detail drawing or sketch to request parts fabrication by machine, sheet metal or wood shops. Studies functional statements, organization charts, and project information to determine functions and responsibilities of workers and work units and to identify areas of duplication. Establishes work measurement programs and analyzes work samples to develop standards for labor utilization. Analyzes work force utilization, facility layout, and operational data such as production costs, process flow charts, and production schedules, to determine efficient utilization of workers and equipment. Recommends methods for improving worker efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities such as restructuring job duties, reorganizing work flow, relocating work stations and equipment, and purchase of equipment. Provides technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations which affect long range plant and product engineering planning. Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs that can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods. Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings. Uses computer assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals. Schedules repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment to ensure continuous production operations. Directs maintenance activities on utility systems to provide continuous supply of heat, steam, electric power, gas, or air required for operations. Develops preventive maintenance program in conjunction with engineering and maintenance staff. Reviews production, quality control, and maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities. Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards. Directs training and indoctrination of maintenance workers to improve work performance. Confers with management, engineering, and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment. Prepares department budget and monitors expenditure of funds in budget. Develops capital equipment justifications for machine tools and process technology to improve quality, cost, and cycle times. Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Manages one subordinate supervisor who supervises a total of four employees in the Maintenance Department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent work experience, with specific coursework in CNC Programming, SPC, MRP, JIY/Lean Manufacuturing, 6 Sigma, Cost Accounting and ergonomics preferred. Minimum one year of work experience with some related experience in manufacturing environment preferred. Knowledge of metal working processes, cutting tools, Word, Excell, Database, and CAM and CAD software applications.
