Stainless Foundry & Engineering Inc. is a $35-40 million company and growing and has been in business for 61 years. There are currently 290 employees that manufacture and machine casting for Military, Nuclear Power, Water and Chemical using over 250 Alloys; not just Stainless Steel.

Selected candidate will be responsible for reducing costs in all areas of the Foundry, Machine Shop and support departments. Position will report to a Senior Vive President. Primary responsibilities include: improving productivity throughout the plant and to reduce work in progress and lead times. Individual will report progress on a quarterly basis. Position will have future supervisory responsibility for Estimating and Methods. Requires a college graduate with an engineering degree or equivalent experience and five to seven years of progressive manufacturing engineering, plant engineering or shop supervision experience. Training and experience in Lean Principles’ and or Six Sigma a plus.

Position Description
Provide leadership and technical support to various manufacturing disciplines such as Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Assurance, Final Test, and Manufacturing Computer Coordinators. Lead the Quality Assurance function's efforts in design, documentation, and implementation of complete quality assurance process. Maintain Material Review Board inventory at acceptable levels by assuring timely disposition of materials. This will involve disposition of up to a million dollars in inventory a year.

Provide technical problem solving assistance to all production personnel. Develop solutions to resolve and eliminate field failures such as special tests, special fixtures or process changes. Assist in new product design reviews (manufacturability, cost, and reliability issues) and assure smooth handoff to production of new products. Make versus buy decisions, as well as providing expertise in the selection of the most economical and reliable processes for the manufacture of components.

Participate with engineering, materials and production personnel in identification of product cost reductions. Track external tooling and development of internal tooling and fixtures to ensure that high cost tooling is properly accounted for. Provide justification of capital equipment, such as production equipment, storage and material handling equipment, test equipment, vendor tooling, etc. Develop documented assembly and test procedures and identify methods and process improvements. Keep production current on the latest technical industry advances in assembly and process innovations. Develop manufacturing tests to assure reliability of computer software and hardware. Design tooling and fixtures, as necessary to optimize assembly efficiencies. Responsible for assuring that Engineering Change Notice (ECN) system dispositions are effectively implemented, both in house and in the field. Work closely with the materials manager, plant manager, and the facilities manager to assure effective material storage and flow throughout the manufacturing/assembly operations. Design plant layouts, as determined necessary, by the Manufacturing team.

Minimum Requirements
Bachelors Degree in an Engineering discipline required. Good working knowledge of manufacturing engineering and quality assurance disciplines. 7-10 years related work experience in an electromechanical assembly environment. Technically familiar with electromechanical assembly. Solid working knowledge of computer hardware and software, strong understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access (or other database applications). PRIMARY FUNCTION

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

A. Coordinate manufacturing feasibility of new or existing products and recommend methods for manufacturing economies.
B. Determine what machining method is most effective for the required product finish, tolerance, and quality. Also determine what assembly method is the most effective to build a quality product.
C. Give technical direction for initiating and maintaining production capability of assigned components.
D. Direct the procurement of specialized tools, fixtures and gauges by evaluating design concepts, initiating tool orders, and justifying expenditures. Support tooling, setup & related production requirements.
E. Establish processes including programming of CNC machines, requesting and approving tooling and equipment, and originating operation instruction sheets in order to produce the product in a safe and economical manner.
F. Participate as an evaluator in support of the Cell Certification Program.
G. Provide manufacturing support documentation necessary for each operation.
H. Maintain knowledge of current and emerging technology through professional societies, periodicals, and vendor contacts.
I. Analyze the manufacturing impact of vendor evaluations and participate in vendor selection decisions.
J. Understand and drive the implementation of all appropriate elements of the Eaton Lean System.
K. Maintain a constant search for identifiable and measurable cost reductions through scrap analysis, technology applications, design modifications, and improved labor utilization. Prepare cost estimates and justifications, as necessary.
L. Recommend DMR disposition and rework procedures.
M. Provide assistance & support to production supervisors in areas of employee on-the-job training needs.
N. Perform other related tasks and assignments, as necessary.

Key Responsibilities Include:

1. Monitoring and managing plant systems including HVAC, compressed air, water systems, ammonia chilling system, fire protection system, etc.
2. Coordinating building and system maintenance with plant maintenance staff
3. Managing facilities support vendors
4. Liaising with Madison Fire Dept and facilities insurance carrier
5. Plant environmental compliance, including submissions and maintenance of all environmental regulatory permits (SARA 313, Title V, Waste Removal, Pollution prevention, Storm & Water Runoff, VOC emissions)
6. Planning, leading, and justifying capital for facility improvements and regulatory compliance projects
7. Representing the Madison plant on the corporate sustainability team
8. Administering the plant energy conservation program
9. Monitoring utility consumption
10. Initiating and leading plant sustainability projects.

1. Executing process improvements tied to equipment modifications, upgrades, and installation of new equipment in support of site safety, waste, quality, and productivity performance. (Identify and justify improvement projects, specify equipment needs to vendors, negotiate with vendors, coordinate vendor and contractor activities, manage projects, support manufacturing personnel in identifying root cause and developing corrective/preventative actions.
2. Share responsibility for cost reduction and/or increasing product value for Amcor's customers.
3. Implement capital projects as assigned to support cost savings and new business opportunities
4. Support manufacturing operations with error-proofing techniques, troubleshooting, process correction, and clearly defined process instructions
