JOB DESCRIPTION: *The Design Engineering Manager position requires a focus on product, process, and employee development. Key responsibilities include creating and maintaining an organizational climate/culture which encourages innovation, collaboration, excitement/commitment and a sense of urgency toward business success; involving and integrating key stakeholders to insure project success; communicating business strategy, goals, and direction; and continuous development of individuals and the organization. *Success factors for the Design Engineering Manager position include demonstrating excellent analytical skills and a mastery of engineering concepts. Major challenges facing incumbents are meeting goals for cost, reliability and performance, and managing multiple priorities. This position must keep up-to-date on changing customer needs as the project progresses, to stay current with new technology, and to provide guidance and direction on the project to less experienced engineers and technicians. Incumbents may be expected to bear significant responsibility for completion of a project with major focus on delivery. *Though organizations will vary, incumbent will interact with people from diverse technical and cultural backgrounds. Position requires people skills for coaching and leading people. This role requires that the incumbent increases understanding of product technology and process and the customers' business and needs. This requires the ability to communicate technical information in a concise and accurate manner. Decisions may significantly impact on: product performance, durability, quality, reliability and serviceability; negotiations with suppliers; leveraging new technologies; warranty; total cost of non-quality; costs; sales; and customer perception.
