Industrial Engineer / Manufacturing Engineer – St. Louis, MOSUMMARYWe are looking for an industrial/manufacturing engineer for our Lean Engineer position, which is responsible for improving process efficiency in the regulated environment of the American Red Cross Biomedical Services National Testing Laboratory and Blood Processing Center located in St. Louis, MO. The Lean Engineer will provide technical direction in situations where expert judgment, planning, or interpretation of relevant technical principles is needed. This position will report directly to the Senior Director of Process Optimization.RESPONSIBILITIESDevelop current-state and future-state value stream maps of all Testing and Blood Processing methods within the facility. Identify value-added and non-value-added steps to eliminate waste and streamline processes. Train and mentor staff on the fundamentals of Lean Manufacturing techniques and how they can be incorporated into the Testing and Blood Processing methods; lead the implementation of continuous flow, 5S, kanban, and pull system concepts. Define, lead and participate in process improvement projects (e.g., Lean Kaizen events). Develop and maintain project plans. Act as project lead on cross-functional teams for process improvement, problem solving, and project management.QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree in industrial engineering or the equivalent education and a minimum of five years experience in applying Lean Manufacturing concepts is required. Certification in Lean, Black Belt in Six Sigma, and/or registration as a Professional Engineer are preferred.Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio software. Familiarity with SIMUL8 or other computer simulation software is preferred. Experience in concept development, cost/benefit analyses, presentation of project proposals, and project scheduling is required. Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify issues, design and implement enhancement opportunities, and manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously are essential. Good oral and written communication, organizational, problem solving, and project management skills are required. Experience working with productivity improvement techniques, strategy formulation, and implementation of plans for capturing Best Practices are required.
