The successful candidate will lead the power systems design for large mining equipment which includes specifying and validating drives, active front ends, power converters, and cooling systems. This position will be part of a high performance, new product introduction team. Essential Responsibilities Translate and document system level requirements into product technical specifications Design analog and / or digital circuits to meet functional requirements, performance requirements and cost targets Perform advanced engineering of inverter technologies as applied to variable speed drives including: conceptual design, hardware prototyping, and algorithm development Perform design tradeoff analysis of circuits with respect to cost, performance, and design flexibility Perform FEMA on components, designs, and products Perform reliability testing and analysis and ensure design meets reliability targets Systems design matching drives, motors, and power regulation / conversion hardware to meet performance specifications Qualifications/Requirements Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering Minimum of 5 years of power electronics design experience ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Ability to support limited travel for field validation (less than 10%) Additional Eligibility Qualifications GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work. As part of the Horizontal Axis (HA) washer platform team, the candidate will be responsible for reducing the overall Cost of Quality of our Horizontal Axis (HA) washers. This highly visible position is part of a top business quality initiative and will involve working with resources from our suppliers, the Supplier Quality, and the Sourcing organizations to identify and reduce design and process defects. The position will offer Black Belt certification opportunities. * Work with cross-functional team to identify and root cause plant and product quality issues. Overall team strategy will be to reduce the Service Call Rate by 50%* Develop, validate and implements engineering solutions to drive down the cost of quality of our HA washers. Engineering work will be conducted both independently and with suppliers. Some projects will require detailed forensic analysis of field failures for root cause identification to support redesign efforts.* Validate the effectiveness of design solutions utilizing DFSS and DFR methodologies. Project designs and proposals will need to be reviewed and defended in peer and technical reviews. Many projects covered in this role will be of the complexity and business impact to be used as DFSS Black Belt projects.* Work with Platform Leader to update and develop new ETP’s and product specifications to support the continuous improvements for our current and new products.* This position will involve projects that are highly visible and have significant business impact.
