DePuy Orthopaedics and DePuy Trauma and Extremities provide products for reconstructing damaged or diseased joints, and for repairing and reconstructing traumatic skeletal injuries. DePuy Spine facilitates fusion of the spine and correction of spinal deformities, including CHARITÉ™, the first artificial spinal disc. Codman provides for the surgical treatment of neurological and central nervous system disorders through products such as hydrocephalic shunt valve systems, implantable drug pumps and micro-surgical instrumentation. DePuy Mitek offers innovative devices in sports medicine for the treatment of soft tissue injuries.   The  Designer develops CAD models and product drawings from engineering sketches and concepts. Develops ideas with Product Development Engineers on major projects.  Develops computer-generated images and models for concept evaluation.  Prepares design proposals on CAD for evaluation.    A Designer develops ideas and concepts through design iteration for new products using CAD models and computer generated images, incorporating design for manufacturability.  Designs portions of implant and instrument systems, develops CAD models and prints.  Resolves engineering and manufacturing problems utilizing CAD techniques, rapid prototyping and available technologies.   Utilizes rapid prototyping and available technologies for product development.  Coordinates translation, transfer, and data verification of CAD data to and from outside vendors. Works with Manufacturing Engineering to establish methods of producing and coordinating designs and prints.   Completes engineering changes as required.  Develops timelines for project completion dates to be used as a medium of communication with engineers and as a tool for monitoring project progress and goal setting.  Responsible for achieving the goals and objectives of the NPD Project Core Team, which includes participating in PCT meetings, completing functional assignments, problem solving and meeting defined milestones and deliverables, which leads to timely project commercialization in a positive team environment.  Works with other departments and outside vendors as necessary to produce manufacturable designs and properly standardized product drawings.   QualificationsMinimum of a BS in Engineering with 1- 2 years of design experience with CAD/CAM systems and advance design applications; without degree,  8 years of design experience with CAD/CAM systems and advance design applications is required. Knowledge of design of orthopedic products is preferred.   Knowledge of basic machining applications and production capabilities to meet design requirements is preferred.  Knowledge of three-dimensional modeling, drafting, layout techniques, GD&T, ASME, rapid prototyping applications, engineering calculations is also preferred.  Unigraphics, Free Form, AMIRA, MIMICS experience is highly preferred.
