Description:
This position is located with the Washington State Patrol's Electronic Services Division (ESD), which supports the State Patrol with engineering skills in communication, electronics, networking, radio transmission, analog, and digital designs. There is a current vacancy in Union Gap, near Yakima. This recruitment will remain open until the position is filled. Jobseekers are encouraged to apply at the very first opportunity. Duties: * Researches, compiles and interprets data; develops application criteria and standards for radar, lidar and video-based Speed Measuring Devices (SMD). * Configures, allocates, and manages SMD provisioning and certification. * Prepares system designs of communication systems and associated documentation. * Designs, develops and deploys user specific SMD implementations. * Writes and originates test and certification procedure instructions for the guidance of technical and operational personnel. * Prepares project schedules, manpower requirements, cost estimates, and bid requests. * Submits performance and progress reports on assigned projects. * Investigates and researches difficult problem areas relating to tests, maintenance, and product improvements. * Provides expert Radar/Lidar testimony in the Washington State Court System. * Prepares technical specifications for the purchase of new equipment. This position requires extensive travel throughout the state in support of SMD certification and court testimony. May require work in excess of 40 hours per week to meet court schedules. Qualifications Required Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics or physics OR additional training in electronics or electrical engineering may be substituted for education on a year for year basis. In-depth knowledge of electrical, RF and electro-optical test equipment, test procedures, and trouble-shooting techniques. Desired Qualification: Four or more years of experience in a field relating to law enforcement Speed Measuring Devices. Desired License/Certification: A valid General Radiotelephone Operator license issued by the Federal Communications Commission or a private NABER certification is desired.
