Primary Objective: Provide Quality Engineering support and guidance to ensure that all components perform as specified in order to enable superior BE System operational performance and quality.
Role & Responsibilities (SQE-based):
Work closely with supply base to achieve target costs, quality, delivery and responsiveness (service).
Create/Develop/Refine all requisite infrastructure and processes needed to Search, Classify, Assess, Qualify, Select, Manage and Improve Supplier Performance. This includes the establishment of and reporting on Supplier Performance Metrics.
Lead supplier performance activity related to quality, continuous process improvement, qualification, and reduction in cost of poor quality.
Work with the supply base on FMEA, control plans, APQP and PPAP activities, performing process audits, and monitoring/improving supply base performance.
Issue Supplier Corrective Action Requests and ensure/verify their timely and effective closure.
Work collaboratively with Procurement, Manufacturing Engineering and Product Engineering to establish and drive Supplier performance improvement.
Serve as a bridge between BE and the supply base for drawings and functional specs while communicating key requirements to the supplier.
Perform and/or guide FAI as necessary.
Create and implement a Tactical Action Plan to drive the supply base to achieve Dock-to-Stock status.
Guide the prioritization and execution of Supplier performance improvement initiatives.
Primary Role & Responsibilities (QE-based):
Provide hands-on, comprehensive Quality Engineering support for assigned Product (Subsystem) Team to achieve and sustain all quality, cost and delivery goals.
Initiate, support and/or lead all activities related to quality, continuous process improvement, qualification, and reduction in cost of poor quality.
Work with the Product (Subsystem) Team to perform DFMEA, PFMEA, FMECA and other Risk Assessments.
Develop and implement formal, comprehensive Process documentation including Process Flow Diagrams, Process FMEAs, Process Control Plans (PCPs), Operations Method Sheets (OMSs).
Support PPAP and APQP processes.
Perform frequent process audits in order to monitor, continuously improve, and sustain superior product quality.
Review and approve process and/product changes.
Create/Develop/Refine all requisite infrastructure and processes needed to improve product quality. This includes the establishment of and weekly reporting on Product Quality Metrics.
Issue Nonconforming Material Reports, Quality Alerts, and Corrective Action Requests as necessary. Ensure and verify Corrective Action effectiveness and timely closure.
Drive FRACAS Process for assigned Product (Subsystem) manufacturing.
Perform data-driven root cause failure analyses as necessary.
Work collaboratively with Procurement, Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Product Engineering, and Technical Development to establish and drive process performance improvement.
Requisite Skills and Performance Behaviors:
Comprehensive understanding of the ISO 9001:2000 and TS16949 Standards and related process documentation. Possess practical working knowledge of process capability and control requirements, methods and systems.
Proficient in ANOVA and MSA. Perform metrology studies and Gage R & R's.
Comprehensive understanding of a Quality Management System, Procurement Process and MRP System.
Proficient in Quality System Auditing, (ASQ CQA a plus.)
Understand the critical elements of modern Manufacturing Statistical Process Control, (e.g., practical working knowledge and experience with SPC, Process Capability, Cp, Cpk, Cpm, etc.)
Be able to create, develop, refine and implement SQE-related processes and procedures.
Be able to create, develop, refine and implement Quality-related processes and procedures.
Ability to interface effectively across departments internally and at the supplier, (including Purchasing, Quality, R&D , Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Marketing and Finance), while building strong and cooperative working relationships.
Strong verbal/active listening/written communications.
Demonstrate planning and leadership skills.
Demonstrate attention to detail, (e.g., First Article Inspections (FAI) and Reports).
Strong critical thinking, analytical skills, and problem solving.
Drive material quality improvement through supplier manufacturing process using incoming and in-process data gathering and analysis.
Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, TQM, 8D, RCCA, etc.
Possess experience with and sound working knowledge of: FAI Process, NCM Process, Supplier Metrics and Scorecarding. waiver/deviation process, SQA process, etc.
Ability to effectively work within a very intense, dynamic, fast-paced, and demanding work environment.
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and statistical software.
Possess a passion for excellence.
Willingness to travel.
Education & Desired Experience:
BS, in Materials Science/Metallurgy OR BS, in Electrical Engineering or Power Electronics
MS or MBA a plus
6+ years as a Quality Engineer
TS16949 Audit experience.
Ability to manage multiple technical activities concurrently internally or with the supply base, with demonstrated experience working at all levels within a supplier's organization.
Possess sound working knowledge of and experience with electrical (power)/electronic components including; PCBAs, electro-mechanical components, etc.
Possess sound working knowledge of and experience with high volume manufacturing process control within a very dynamic environment.
Proven technical and project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects/suppliers concurrently and lead continuous improvement teams.
Hands-on experience working with production/lean six sigma manufacturing systems, preferably within a start-up environment.
Working knowledge of fuel cell components and systems a plus.
Solid understanding and experience with quality management systems and statistical process capability analyses.
Possess extensive experience with supplier/quality management tools, i.e. PPAP, APQP, SPC, 8D, SCAR, etc., especially for high technology components.
Proven ability and demonstrated experience in performing supplier assessments and driving timely supplier improvement.
