Company: Brownsville Marine Products LLC Location: Brownsville, PA Description: Summary: The Engineering Manager (EM) will be responsible for the operation of the Engineering and Quality Departments of a shipbuilding (barge building) construction company. The EM will be a “hands-on” manager and report directly to the General Manager. The EM is an integral part of the management team and its tactical and strategic planning responsibilities. The EM will also be responsible for the Estimating & Quotation processes for new vessel (barge) construction and repair. He/she will frequently interact with Production to assure that the vessel construction processes adhere to industry standard and achieve desired results. Essential Functions: • Development and design of new vessel general arrangement drawings (for quoting purposes) and detailed construction drawings used in construction of customer contracts. • Development and design of detailed construction drawings used in the repair of vessels already in service and contracted for overhaul/repair. • Development and design of modifications to detailed construction drawings to accommodate customer driven changes. • Development and design of modifications to detailed construction drawings to accommodate Production driven changes. • Review Production requests (Engineering Change Requests) for potential modification to construction drawing which might improve ease of construction or the quality of the vessel and respond/take action as warranted. • Supervise Engineering Department personnel • Lead the development of Engineering initiatives, policies, and procedures. • Manage Quality Control/Quality Assurance personnel • Supervise an Industrial Engineer who has Production planning, scheduling, & supportive estimating responsibilities. • Assist in developing QC/QA initiatives and policies. • Will assist the Industrial Engineer with shop layout, modification, and loading studies • Coordinate with HR for the requisition and provision of engineering staffing needs as required to assure the delivery of adequate Engineering support as the company expands in accordance with its strategic growth strategies. • Consider, recommend, and justify technologies (software/hardware) that advance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Engineering and QA/QC functions. • Assist Engineering in the development of estimates for new barge construction • Assist Engineering in the development of estimates for barge repair • Periodically, and in a timely fashion, review and document the performance of direct reports identifying • Create ad-hoc reports as necessary • Perform other job duties as required Physical Demands: • Employee must be in good physical condition. Job will require daily walking and standing. Will require frequent visits to the Production Shops necessitating the use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) including steel toed shoes equipped with metatarsal protection, hearing & eye protection, protective covering of extremities (such as long sleeved shirts). Education, Skills & Knowledge: • BS degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering. Any individuals having achieved their Masters in Naval Architecture will be given preferential consideration. Would also consider individuals with other engineering degrees depending on previous job experience. • Experienced as a supervisor or manager of an Engineering Dept preferred but not necessary. • Previously shipyard or heavy steel construction/fabrication experience preferred but will consider other work experience along with education. • Experience with and an ability to use AutoCAD 2000/2002 • Familiarity with ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) and/or AWS (American Welding Society) Standards required. • Familiarity with CNC Plasma Cutting & Plate Bending software and processes • Strong knowledge of computer based systems and MS Office software products (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) • Experience with MS Project, Primavera P3/P6 preferable • Strong communication skills, both oral and written |
