RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for plant energy costs and efficiency. Responsible for the research and implementation of projects and programs to continually reduce energy costs and improved utilization.
Coordinates with the safety committee and safety management to implement safety suggestions providing a safe atmosphere for the total plant operation.
Thorough understanding of the engineering environmental activities including air, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and solid waste. Responsible for the maintaining of all pollution control devices.
Inspects and advises on all areas of the plant for equipment design, evaluation and troubleshooting.
Responsible for the coordination of the operations of steam generating, electrical power service, compressed gases, water, sewer, HVAC, process liquids, plant-wide lighting, buildings, grounds, and fire protection systems to provide uninterrupted service.
Responsible for all outside contractors to assure compliance with all company standards including sanitation, safety, quality, productivity and budgeting.
Directs the installation of new equipment and/or modification/rearrangement of existing equipment for assigned projects.
Responsible for the cost schedule and performance of assigned projects.
Complies with all property accounting policies and procedures.
Sets the direction for maintenance and engineering training by providing the leadership, support, and training necessary for the development of each team member as a valued and critical resource.
Researches and utilizes the latest engineering maintenance technologies to enhance the plant's operation.
Responsible for providing and maintaining adequate plant fire protection systems that meet insurance requirements.
Responsible for the maintenance function of plant facilities and equipment with shared responsibility among Operating Department Managers for specific daily maintenance in their respective areas.
Coordinates staffing requirements within the Department consistent with plant objectives. Monitors and promotes activities that will prove effective for improving engineering and maintenance on an ongoing basis.
Establishes standards of measurement for the Engineering and Maintenance Departments performance and administers performance appraisals for all department team members.
Develops short and long-range goals of the Engineering and Maintenance Department.
Responsible for storeroom functions to ensure that effective materials purchases and parts inventories are maintained consistent with plant needs.
Responsible for the review an approval of equipment purchase orders, contract service orders and plant service agreements.
Responsible for full compliance with governmental regulation (local, state & federal).
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
EDUCATION:
Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering required
EXPERIENCE:
At least 5 years of project management experience in an industrial environment required, preferably in food processing. Experience must include at least 2 years in maintenance and at least 3 years in staff/project engineering (including time as trainee and/or assistant).
SKILLS:
Able to effectively manage multiple tasks/projects on an ongoing basis. Thorough understanding of engineering economics. Leadership skills in coordinating multiple engineers, maintenance crews, improvement teams, etc.
