An opportunity exists for an electrical and mechanical Designer II at MEPPI. As Designer II you will create designs and support manufacturing for gas and vacuum circuit breakers using 2D/3D modeling techniques for mechanical parts and 2D techniques for electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.

This position will:

  • Take general requirements/objectives from design and application engineering staff and from customers, with minimal direction, create concepts, recommendations, designs, and all design drawings and documents, 2D and 3D, mechanical and electrical, that fully specify the layout/design requirements and support the manufacture of the part and electrical control panels.
  • Generate and maintain 3D parts and assemblies using 3D modeling CAD packages and electrical schematics and wiring diagrams using appropriate electrical software packages.
  • Prepare both mechanical and electrical schematic and wiring diagram drawings and documents.
  • Take responsibility for mechanical and electrical drawing control to maintain original drawings and to preserve CAD data.
  • Make products more cost effective in collaboration with design engineers, production personnel, and vendors, including both mechanical aspects and electrical/control aspects.
  • Make recommendations to improve product cost, quality, and manufacturing efficiency, including both mechanical aspects and electrical/control aspects.
  • Interpret customer mechanical and electrical specifications and drawings and convert into MEPPI production drawings.
  • Train and guide less experienced designers and drafters.
  • Oversee broad based department CAD System as needed.
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Associates degree in drafting or design technologies, plus a minimum of 8 years of mechanical and electrical drafting, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years experience using Solid Modeling, and commercial electrical schematic and wiring diagram software.
  • Advanced computer skills utilizing CAD technologies, electrical schematic and wiring diagram software, and MS Office Products.
  • Developed communications skills – verbal and written to interface with management and drafting/engineering personnel, vendors, and customer.
  • In-depth knowledge of CAD software and electrical schematic and wiring diagram software in the industry and detailed knowledge of use of software package in MEPPI.
  • High proficiency in 3-D modeling and electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Drafting experience with gas and/or vacuum circuit breakers and/or related technology.
