Description:
Position Summary: The responsibilities of the Packaging Engineer are to find, develop and manage projects from start to finish that are focused on labor savings, packaging material savings, packaging process improvements, and packaging efficiencies. They implement capital projects, provide technical assistance to operations, perform packaging engineering in support of packaging improvements, new products, and line extensions. Principle Accountabilities: 1. Manages projects in all of the facilities at Idahoan Foods, LLC. that improves, labor efficiencies, packaging material efficiencies, packaging equipment efficiencies, and finished product usages efficiencies. 2. Assists the Director of Engineering with the capital budget. 3. Writes the Capital Expenditure Authorization Request (CEAR) process including the planning, design and engineering, budgeting, justification, approval and implementation of projects. 4. Coordinates capital projects with management and various departments including finance, operations, supply chain, etc. 5. Together with the Project Manager, manages the timely and economic completion of capital projects; which may include the supervision of outside engineering firms, supply vendors and contractors. 6. Evaluates alternative solutions to design issues as determined by tests and experience. 7. Investigates emerging technologies, identifies new packaging opportunities with emphasis on cost reductions and enhanced packaging. 8. Provides engineering support for inter-departmental groups including, management, maintenance, production, packaging and distribution in addition to outside vendors and contractors to ensure effective and efficient project management balanced with packaging and customer distribution requirements. 9. Recommends improvements to packaging methods. 10. Interacts with plant operations to improve and optimize staffing and scheduling. Professional Qualifications/Required Skills of the Position: Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in engineering (B.S.) from four year college or university. Three years related experience with an emphasis in packaging engineering in food and/or beverage industry. Master degree is highly desirable, but not required. Language Skills: Ability to read, comprehend, and compose instructions, correspondence, and memos. Must possess the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. The ability to conduct professional and compelling presentations and respond to questions from groups of managers and senior executives within the Company is critical. Incumbent must effectively facilitate meetings. Reasoning Ability: Possess strong analytical, quantitative, communication, problem solving, and technical skills. Have the ability to creatively apply experience, common sense, and a strategic and economical business perspective to a variety of situations, processes and people. Has the ability to manage several projects concurrently. Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have solid working knowledge with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCad and Outlook. Physical Demands: Individual must be capable of carrying up to 50 lbs . Must be flexible to occasionally work overtime. Work Environment: The work environment is a traditional office with approximately 25 30% travel involved.
